So before catching covid I was having a flare up of symptoms. Started taking budesonide and it helped a lot. I caught covid and it has worsened my flare up. Not having the normal crampy pain I usually get but I am having diarrhea. I wouldn’t call it severe diarrhea but I am having it a few times a day. Stomach is very gurgly and gassy.
I had my blood drawn today to check my Inflectra levels/antibodies and my next infusion is scheduled January 12. I really don’t want to move to a stronger steroid like prednisone when I’m not in a lot of pain and with my infusion so close. Any advice in the mean time? Diarrhea is not a typical flare symptom for me. Normally it’s intense cramping and lots of blood. I am seeing blood but not the normal large amounts. Can I take Pepto to help with the diarrhea ?

Hi,
I COVID too and it did make me so much worse. Yes pepto would help, bu do et8mes diarreah is really constipation which took me a long t8me to figure out. I take herb lax 4 a day or every other and that cleans me out and I don’t have diarreah. Are you constipated?

The diarrhea might not necessarily be a flare but could be a symptom of the covid infection and would then calm down as you get better (a quick google says pepto might help...there's even an ongoing clinical trial in covid patients... )

I'd ask your GI. Hope you feel better soon.

Just posted this on another thread:

It could be Covid that is making things worse rather than your flare. I know 2 people who had Covid recently who said they had horrible diarrhea. Both were non-IBD people. One of them said her nurse sister said the diarrhea was her body expelling virus. Don't know if that's true, but she was better in just a few days after the D started. Hopefully when the Covid goes your flare will get back to where it was before

I definitely didn’t think about this being a covid symptom. I hope that’s the case and will go away soon then!

I think you were right about the diarrhea being from covid. Having solid bowel movements now but still seeing quite a bit or blood. Ugh. I hope the Inflectra levels tells me something and I hope getting my infusion will knock this back down

I guess this answers some questions that have come up about if covid itself can cause —or worsen — a flare. So sorry you’ve been through all this. Flares are bad enough on their own and then covid on top of it! I hope your flare settles down soon. Maybe once the virus clears your body completely things will settle down a bit.
