Does anybody have any tips on controlling urgency to have a BM when going home and even worse when almost in the house?

Without fail lately I only just make it to the toilet.. this tends to happen mostly when I know I’m near the house and super urgent when opening the door.

I don’t tend to get this urgency when I’m actually in the house.

On a side note. I find lately that as soon as I start eating food, if its more than a few nibbles I get the urge to go. Can you relate?

When I was at my worst even a teeny sip of water would make me run to the toilet (and usually not make it) So yes can definitely relate even though it’s been over 4 years now. You never forget the awfulness of that feeling.

Definitely relate to the 'almost home syndrome'.
I've also noticed that if I am in a situation where going to the bathroom would be very difficult, i.e
at a meeting, on a long drive I somehow don't need to go.

Also If I'm home and the kids are acting up, I'll somehow suddenly need to go.

It made me think more seriously about the mind body connection......

I remember the "almost home" syndrome, what a nightmare (and I lived in the top floor of the building at that time and had to run up 80 stairs to reach my apartment). But it got better when I went on biologics smile I know it's horrible but hang in there.

It’s a mind gut connection. Your body reacts to what your mind thinks

Yes. Agree. It’s thinking about it.
Our minds are incredibly powerful when it comes to this awful disease.

I’ve actually had to get out of the car in my driveway and drop my pants right there, kind of hiding beside the car, during daylight! Fortunately my neighborhood is pretty quiet during the day. Of course, once I got myself together, I came out and hosed off the driveway. Disgusting I know, but a true story.

For sure, there is a trigger between swallowing food or a drink, even a sip, that can trigger the urge to go when you’re struggling with urgency. So, I have learned, a good bit before even getting in the car, never ever take a drink or a sip of something or swallow even a small piece of food or chew gum or anything, when I’m having an urgency day.

I remember reading a technique that said the key to urgency is instead of clenching up, as you tend to do, to relax instead. So instead of running to toilet all clenched up trying to hold it in, to take your time and walk and relax your muscles. Seems I recall it did kind of work a little bit.

Many accidents for me. Pulled over on Pkwy and did my buisness during rush hour
Few accidents in my pants bc I couldn't hold it in which was usually around flare time. Not easy until I had surgery. No more accidents

Wow. Rush hour? That tops my driveway drop by a lot. And I’ve heard several crazy stories over the years. But the Rush Hour Pull Over is the all-time “winner” story in my opinion.

Before UC I had IBS, and I had to pull over off the highway once, and run into the woods. But I’m think I’m hearing you say you pulled your pants down on the side of the road hunched down next to your vehicle??

(Not sure why I want the details. I guess misery loves company. Lol)
