Had a colonoscopy two weeks ago. Seems everything is somewhat ok. Little inflammation. So stelara is working. Biopsy’s were taken. I’ve had blood cramps and mucus for almost two weeks. Is this normal?
Really not feeling good. Tried contacting the doctor on Friday. Guess they must leave early. Had spoken to them a week before. They say said it was normal. Been using cortiform. Not doing the job. Feels like the colonoscopy just irritated the colon. Was doing pretty good until now.
Next injection isn’t until a week from this Tuesday.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Sorry to read that you aren't doing well. In my mind, two weeks of this with blood is not normal. Does your dr have a patient portal so you can send a message? If you have one, I would send a message today in hopes of you getting a call on Monday. I know a lot of drs leave at noon on Fridays, doesn't help us much when we need them.

Let us know when you speak to your dr.

Not normal....unless youre flaring. Little inflammation where? What were your symptoms before the scope? And what exactly now except for blood and mucus?

Hope your doc gets back to you soon.

Hi Quincy
Before the colonoscopy I was doing well considering. Calprotectin came back with some inflammation. Much better then the last one. Was having regular bowel movements with no problems.
No blood or mucus. Seemed to always have a bit of inflammation in the rectal area. Little cortisone cream occasionally helped.
After colonoscopy had a lot of cramps and blood. Seems he took quite a few biopsies. Went on My Chart portal. Seems everything came out ok. Now I’m left with cramps mucus and little blood. Hard to go to the bathroom. No formed stool. So it’s two weeks since colonoscopy and this is what I’m left with.
Been using Cortiform. Really don’t have much in meds right now. Used to have an arsenal of meds.
It’s really not doing much.

This happened to me once after a scope. I had very mild inflammation and biopsies confirmed that but I bled so much worse afterward. The biopsies irritated things and I ended up on prednisone for the flare.

Did you see the results of biopsies?

I'm wondering since this has been 2 weeks, consider to ask your GI (if you get a response)for a stool testing kit. I can't remenber if you can take mesalamine...maybe that as an addition?

I have no problem taking anything. Had the stool test the day before the colonoscopy. Actually on Friday, colonoscopy was on Monday’s I guess you mean the calprotectin stool test. It was in the 600’s . Last one was 1100 approximately.
First one was right before I started stelara..I believe it was June of 2021. Had a colonoscopy too.
They are good about getting back to me. Too bad they couldn’t move the Stelara up a week. Suppose to get it a week from this Tuesday.

I've had multiple flares caused by coloniscopies. I always needed prednisone to get them under control.

Btw, 600 for calprotecrin doesn't sound too good. I have severe symptoms with a calpro that high. Hope you feel better soon.

Just went on my chart portal. It’s not normal to still have problems two weeks after colonoscopy. That’s what the nurse said. They are forwarding message to doctor. Wish they could have left well enough alone. I guess the specialist has to take a look.
I’ll take anything except pred. Mentally I do horrible on the stuff.

I hate getting scopes while in remission for this very reason. Huge bummer, I'm sorry. Maybe try Uceris before pred if your symptoms aren't too terrible.

From my experience, too, c-scopes can upset remission. The prep can upset, plus friction produced by scope passing over colon mucosa, plus no. of biopsies taken & their location, plus any hemmie condition. Gastros usually don't want to admit that, but my more recent gyns (females) have shown a lot more empathy RE post-scope conditions. Hoping you'll get well again soon. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

Never heard yesterday. Wrote a long post on portal this morning. I know Mondays is a day he does colonoscopies. So it’s Tuesday and it seems to be getting worse.

I hope you hear something today! I always hate having to call a dr on Mondays too, lol.

How are you doing from the injuries from the accident?

Keep us posted.

Still an on going full recovery. Lots of low back issues. SI joint discomfort. Least I’m alive and walking normal. Went back to walking. Spinning is something I’ll wait a bit.
Thanks for asking!

Hate those portals! They got back to me and said take Imodium and dicyclomine.
That’s because I said no to pred. What about Budesonide. Side effects aren’t as bad. Asked them to call me. There has to be something else to take.
I don’t have constant diarrhea. Feel like I have to go but really not so much. Gas and some watery light blood. What about something to try to heal this somewhat. He’s my specialist. Those portals shouldn’t be used for diagnosing.

Maybe add some rectal meds? That should help with the feeling like you have to go and nothing comes. I used hydrocortisone enemas or suppositories last time I flared (mesalamine enemas don't do anything for me). Send him a message and ask if he can send in a script for the budenoside and a rectal med. That should fix you up pretty quickly.

I like the portals. When I have issues I spell out what is going on - number of BMs, formed or not, blood or not and anything else and then ask for a specific med (enemas, budenoside, pred if I have tried everything else) if possible. If I send a message in the morning I usually get a message from the pharmacy that my script is ready to pick up that afternoon. When I asked for pred I had to get a stool test before I could start it.

I requested a call. Nurse called And wrote for 7 days of hydrocortisone enemas. Didn’t want to give me anything orally.
Maybe he figures the Stelara next week will be the cure all. Wish I never had the scope two weeks ago. Was really feeling good. Why so many colonoscopies? Twice a year is too many.

Hopefully these will help. Two scopes a year, no way! No one should have two scopes a year unless it is extremely dire circumstances. I had to do this once with my gi the first year I started treating with him, but I was in rough shape. That was the only time in all of these years.

I hope you get to feeling better.

Last scope was in June and now two weeks ago. I know it’s a different year. Every time they change Meds or they are up for a yearly renewal. TB test and Colonoscopy. I test positive for TB everytime. Chest X-ray time too.

Maybe you should try to find a new doc. No reason to do scopes that often.

He is my other Doc!
He’s my specialist in a Orlando fl. I don’t live near Orlando. Had dysplasia twice and was referred out. So now I have to deal with 2 Gastro’s. He’s one of the best in this part of Florida. If the calprotectin was better I wouldn’t have to have had the last one. I get one at least once a year. If things aren’t looking to good then twice. While on Entyvio for three years I only had one a year.
Trying to keep that colon!
