Part of the reason I say a mask must be a choice is because people need to do the right thing on their own--plus we don't know their health issues.. There are some people that can not wear a mask because of health issues. I know .. it's an easy thing to do. (You would think that they would just do it.) If I had my way everyone old enough would wear a mask. Most of my family members wear a mask. Some of the kids in school--they don't care what anyone says--they are continuing to wear their mask. One told me... I haven't had a cold or a sore throat since I started wearing a mask. I like not being sick. I'm wearing my mask.

Sure, if there's a medical reason not to wear a mask then that's different (and such people are already exempt under mandates? ). But refusing to wear one because it's a minor inconvenience doesn't buy it for me. And let's remember this isn't forever. It's until we have enough drugs to treat people who do not respond to vaccines or are otherwise vulnerable to covid.

For me, I wear one commuting to work. The mask mandate for public transportation is still in effect. Depending on how crowded a store is, that's how I make the decision to either mask or not to mask.

I pick my grandson up from high school and I live near a market that is a block away from another high school. I constantly see kids walking after school or at lunch — outside — still wearing their masks. They’re so used to them that they don’t even notice. It’s the parents and others looking on that are upset about how they “think” it’s harming the kids. Maybe it’s teaching them to read finer details in people for facial cues. Like how the eyes crinkle up when someone smiles.

I still don’t understand why vaccination has gotten such a bad hype. No one I’ve talked to has been able to give me a logical explanation why they don’t want to get one. It’s always something stupid like the government is making me do it. Um … the government makes us do lots of thing like pay taxes and obey laws and send our kids to school or whatever.

What I don't understand is at the beginning of this pandemic, health care workers worked 24/7, at the bedside of people who were dying from Covid, holding a patient's hand as they died. They were our heros and still are. Now, these health care workers are being fired because they won't get the vaccine. I cannot wrap my head around this.

As far as government making us do a lot of things.......paying taxes and obeying laws will not give you side effects (and long term side effects) as a vaccine might. Paying taxes and obeying laws doesn't "compromise" someone's health.

I think everyone in the U.S. has been forced to have vaccines to go to school. I've had a scar from one for life. I can never understand the argument about disliking the government forcing it on someone. I kinda get the concern for health reasons and fear of the unknown. But "no one can force me to do anything" is bogus brainwashing.

Thanks, quincy. I couldn't remember if it was the small pox or polio vaccine that left the scar.

I support the lifting of the mandates, all of them. I am a person at risk and it's my personal responsibility to protect myself. During periods when I am more immune compromised, it's my job to avoid crowds, uncooked food, and places where I may be at increased risk. I can't expect the entire world to restrict their lives for my benefit, that's not realistic.

The mandates are causing so many other ills. Children are not developing properly because they can't see full human faces, seniors are locked in long-term care homes and can't see their loved ones, people have lost their jobs and their livelihoods over a medical choice. The overdose rate from addiction; depression and suicide are skyrocketing. This has to end.

It's not that sick people don't matter. We matter. It's that we can't just focus on one single risk to society while ignoring all the others. If you are afraid, get vaccinated, wear a mask, socially distance, and self-isolate when necessary. Did you ever do all that during cold and flu season in the past? Protect yourself.

Jeez, a cold and flu season comparison, how laughable.

You seem to be missing the point that it is still a freaking PANDEMIC. A few days this month there were almost 4,000 dead and 500,000+ Infected Americans. The pandemic isn’t over and it’s not an endemic yet.

Masking children is wrong. Full stop.

Disabled children have a right learn in a safe environment. That is the law. Full stop.

I’m surprised there hasn’t been more lawsuits over this, I’m sure the lawsuits will start flying soon.

That’s what you do when you live in a civilized society. The FreeDumb Crowd doesn’t understand that. It shouldn’t be so difficult to get a vaccine and wear a mask, it’s like the bare minimum. I understand that lockdowns and quarantines are really tough.

I plan on wearing a mask in the winter months. I found that when this pandemic started and masks were required, I didn't get any colds, etc..during the winter months. I don't think masks or the vaccine is 100% but I do think it helps to some degree. I just do what's best for me. I don't chastise someone because they don't want the vaccine. My interaction with them might change, but it's a personal decision.

I flagged it to the admin already yesterday.

I don't know why we are even on the vaccine subject while the discussion was about masks.

Wearing a mask protects other people. It's a small inconvenience, while being considerate to your fellow citizen who may be more vulnerable than you.

They think they are so witty but it’s actually ridiculously stupid, it’s so stupid that I can’t even call it sophomoric; the slogan attracts very low IQ individuals. And if you have to explain what it means then it’s a really bad slogan (Marketing 101).

Michele -- I have had friends and family say that they are likely to wear masks during cold and flu season from now on even if Covid would disappear -- they like not getting colds. Even pre-Covid if flu cases were high in my area I wore a mask when I would go shopping. Me alone wearing a mask isn't going to completely protect me, but it's better than nothing. I switched to KN95 masks for better protection when most people stopped wearing them here.

Clo, in a perfect world people wouldn't have to be mandated to do anything. They would see the value in doing something for the greater good of society. Unfortunately, this has all become a political issue instead of a societal health issue and half the country just isn't going to do anything unless they are absolutely required to do so -- and even then they will complain about it the entire time.

Keith -- I suspect those lawsuits will be coming soon. I agree with Flowers -- most kids don't seem to mind the masks. It's the adults who are fussing about them. Kids already face danger from school shootings, when the mask mandates end the vulnerable will be in danger from ALL of their classmates/teachers. I wept over inaction after Sandy Hook. Now this. Doesn't seem like we care about keeping kids safe anymore.

Pretty sure "fjb" means exactly what we think it means. I find it odd that that is allowed to stand.

The irony is that most of what you are referencing comes from the "Pro-life" crowd. You'd think that if they were actually pro-life that they would be upset by 1M americans dying from a disease that is now preventable with masks and vaccines. Instead we get them whining about wearing a little mask or getting a very safe and effective vaccine.

Thank you, Michele.

I actually like wearing a mask at times. Doesn't bother me at all to wear one when going into a store. I'm going to a concert this Thursday and am very happy they require that everyone either show proof of vaccination or of a negative covid test. Masks are also required. I attended a concert in October that had the same policy, and I felt much safer.
