Hi everyone just curious how many of you are on Remicade or inflector and have also dealt with cancer? My oncologist is suggesting that maybe my cancer is from my Remicade. I am now on inflector. I’m thinking about asking my doctor if it’s possible just to have the surgery to have the infected intestine removed I have ulcerative colitis more specifically left-sided colitis. I’m worried if I continue to take this medicine maybe I will have another cancer issue and the chemo and radiation is no joke. Any of your thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

What kind of cancer and where?

I am on Remicade. No cancer here. I just want to make sure I understand what to watch for.

I do not believe getting breast cancer is a reason to get your large intestine removed. Especially if your UC is well managed on Inflectra.

But it's an interesting question: does infliximab/inflectra increase our odds of getting a breast cancer? I found this on a search.

"Infliximab and newly diagnosed neoplasia in Crohn's disease: a multicentre matched pair study"

"Abstract - Background and aims
The widespread use of anti‐tumour necrosis factor α antibody (Infliximab) in Crohn's disease (CD) raises concerns about a possible cancer risk in the long term. In a matched pair study, we assessed whether Infliximab is associated with an increased risk of neoplasia."

" Conclusion
In our multicentre matched pair study, the frequency of a new diagnosis of neoplasia in CD patients treated with Infliximab was comparable with CD patients who had never received Infliximab."

Source:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/labs/pmc/articles/pmc1856527/

Also from that study

"Newly diagnosed neoplasias have occasionally been reported in clinical trials using Infliximab in CD, with a frequency similar to that expected in the general CD population."

Thank you for your insight and the information. I shared it with my husband it’s very encouraging. I think your right about not needing to get my intestine removed just because of the breast cancer. I’m researching and checking into what I need moving forward in this cancer journey.
