My daughter has UC & is on Stelara. She has been suffering with a sinus infection for 2 weeks. She went to Urgent Care & was prescribed Amoxicillin. I am afraid this is not a good choice of medicine to take. She took 1 before she told me & I insisted she not take anymore until her GI approves. Advice & experience? Thank you!

This is just my experience, but amox was the least offensive antibiotic of all the ones I've taken. It doesn't last very long in the body so you have to dose often, which means there is a little bit of grace in there that gives your body a bit of a break from it. I had a gut infection one time and they tried amox first, then when it didn't work they did azithromycin and that one was brutal because it has such a long half life, like 60 hours or something like that. It stays in the body for weeks and it me flare. As long as you're not allergic to it, I think amox is more gentle by comparison. But it's still an antibiotic so it comes with the usual cautions for UC.

I've taken it many times and always been fine.

I've taken it alone or in Clavulin...no issues. The last time I took it, one day I had loose stool...but I was very sick with larynx and chest infection.

I always double my probiotics while on abx.

I have always done best on drugs that are in the penicillin family.

I was told by my GI to go with Amox Clav over just Amox because (paraphrase) “easier on the gut and better absorbed by “us””

Gastro said Ciproflaxin works best for UCers. Othorr antibiotics have sent me to ER. They work on each of us differently. Good luck

I usually use Cipro. I became allergic to penicillin so the doctors stopped using Cillins on me.

While on antibiotics I usually take a probiotic and eat a carton of yogurt a day. Helps avoid those nasty yeast infections.

Was on amoxicillin 10 days for teeth work. On 7th day, switched to something else due to D.

Currently on Z-pack for strep throat. Day 3 today, sore throat gone but D begins. 2 days to go.
