Just wondering if anything really helps dietary during flares? Should I go all liquid diet or just chicken and rice very bland route?
Interestingly I feel so hungry this time around, I just started 3 days of methyl pred IV infusions so hopefully that stops the flare but it will increase appetite. Thanks for the advice.

Everyone is different when it comes to food. When I flared I ate apple sauce, chicken broth, toast and bananas.

For me, a low fibre diet helped. Sort of like what you eat the week before a colonoscopy.

Low residue, low fiber diet is best during flares. You want to decrease that indigestible, stool bulking component of your diet for less pain at exit/pooping. Things like soups, broths, chicken and potatoes are low residue. If you Google "low residue diet" then you'll get many suggestions.

Yes, Prednisone is known for an insatiable appetite. If you lost a lot of weight at the onset of your flare, then that helps to regain lost mass.

I relied heavily on the Specific carbohydrate diet during some of my flares. It helps me. The homemade yogurt and chicken bone broth soup were the only things I could keep down. I'd work my way up to oatmeal "broth," with cream and honey in it, frozen pureed apples, strawberries, bananas. Rice-for me was a nightmare. I could drink ice cold Walmart Equate original Chocolate meal replacement over ice. I could not use the name brands--for me they caused acid diarrhea.

Are you keeping a food journal? That helps me determine what I am able to eat during flares. There are things that I am able to eat every time and others that change.

In addition to the suggestions above, I puree all soups, and exclude all spices.

When a flare is at peak severity, all I eat is pureed soup, bread, and soft foods. I have to avoid all foods that contain histamine or can trigger histamine release, like dairy, soy, gums, and other food additives. I have to baby my colon.
