Had some labs done today and have a low WBC. I’m at 2.8 when I should be at 4.1 and higher .
Any UC sufferers with a low WBC?

What meds/supplements are you using? I never had low wbc ... you might want to check with your doc.

Yes, I specifically suffer from neutropenia on a regular basis. It gets worse when I weight lift as my main exercise, probably because the muscle damage/repair cycle somehow spends WBC. It's been suggested to me that years of steroid use has left my bone marrow somewhat suppressed, so my body makes WBC at a slower rate now. If I could stay in remission for several years, my WBC would likely resume normal levels of turnover.

That said, my neutrophils have dropped as low as 1.0 (normal is 2.0-5.5) and I have not had any symptoms. Some people naturally dip into levels that are below normal and it works fine for them.

Which of your WBC are below normal? What's the breakdown?

LYM# “1.0”. normal range 1.20-3.20
MON# “.10” normal range .20-1.00
MPV “8.1” normal range 8.4-12.4
WBC “2.8” normal range 4.2-10.1

I don’t take any supplements, only med I have been taking has been albuterol. Urgent care doctor let me go home once he saw the lab tests. I’m assuming it’s not life or death? Or did he just not care ?

No neutrophil count? That's odd.

Anyway... they're low, but not extremely low. So you only take albuterol, no other immune suppressant drugs?

I always take zinc, vitamin C, vitamin A, and vitamin D, but when my WBC get too low for comfort, I double my doses of everything. You might want to try that.

Have you ever had your iron tested? Sometimes low iron can lead to low WBC.

Do you have any symptoms of a low immune system? Do you feel run down? Do you get minor infections in your cuts? Any yeast/fungus growth on you body or in your mouth? Any sores that won't heal?

If you don't really have any symptoms of a low immune system then I wouldn't worry about it.

Ask a doctor. It could mean lots of things (including some harmless).

They aren't real low. Check with your doc. Why were you at urgent care?

I was at urgent care as I relocated cities and no longer have any of my physicians Nearby and was out of medicine. My GP advised me to go to urgent care to get checked out.
After getting checked out by the urgent care physician he just sent me on my way and said to eventually follow up with my GP.
I did schedule an appointment with my GI for next week so hopefully that helps.

I have had it off and on for years. When it first surfaced I was referred to a hematologist and monitored regularly for months. He and my gastroenterologist decided it might be a rare side effect of the Asacol I was taking, so they had me switch meds. My WBC then went back up to the low normal range and stayed there for years. Recently I have had some low results again, but also some low normal. The doctors have decided not to be concerned unless it drops really low because it’s been so long since I first had it with no apparent repercussions. That said, I would definitely discuss it with your GI and get a follow up test with the WBC breakdown of neutrophils, etc.

I recently had my neutrophils drop to 0.2. At the same time was experiencing chronic cold sores, mouth ulcers and then a tooth abcess. I suspected Azathioprine was causing this and gastro told me to stop taking it immediately. Two weeks later neutrophils have gone up to 0.8 still low but heading in the right direction. I did have some flu virus at the time of second bloods so hopefully next ones will be improved.
