If it's uncomfortable to sit after pooping, is it more likely a hemmie than UC?

I am once again experiencing a bit of blood and wondering if it's a hemmie or UC.

I could of course go to dr., and will if this keeps up. But I am supposed to leave on a three-day trip tomorrow AM. I was already nervous about this trip bc I've been having a bad recurrence of my acid reflux. I went back on Prevacid (hopefully temporarily) and sometimes these drugs have been implicated in a UC flare.

It's been so long since I flared that I can't remember. If you can feel the discomfort when you sit after a morning poop, is it any more likely to be just a hemmie? Any reassurance would be great to hear (or not, as the case may be).

It could be either one, I know that wasn't helpful at all. If you have a history of hemmies, go to the drug store & get PrepH, or whatever has worked for you in the past. If the discomfort goes away in a couple of days along with the blood then you will have your answer. If this doesn't work call your dr when you get back.

Enjoy your trip.

So far still one a day. But it has a look that reminds me of the past... hard to explain.
It's been years, I mean years since I had a flare. But my acid reflux has recently been acting up again big time, and there's been poor sleep, an arm injury that made it harder to exercise, uptick of anxiety, etc.-- sort of a series of unfortunate events. I've been nervous already about taking this (work) trip, and now... I'm seriously thinking of not doing it. The flying, the restaurant food, the (likely) worse sleep-- just not sure it is worth shaking things up right now.

It's possible...but the "look" as you say, plus stomach discomfort could mean low rectal inflammation. What meds are you on?

I've been on just Asacol + Rowasa for years. But I was always nervous about taking less Asacol. Just this Jan. I finally went down from 8 a day to 7 (so just one at midday, and 3 in morning and night). Then of course right after that everything went to hell, general stress-wise. Maybe a bad combination.

You're so kind to always respond to everyone, Quincy.
If you thought you *might* be about to flare, or had "low-level" rectal inflammation as you say, what would you do? At one time I actually did use two Rowasas in a day-- I thought of doing that for a day or two.

😊
I see you have 2 threads and asked how long on nightly Rowasa? And what dosage?

My symptoms are consistent gas and bloating, gnawing stomach pain that isn't relieved by any acid reducer or my ppi, continual nausea, rolling shivers up and down my body, narrow stool, mucus noted in stool, rectal spasming during bms. Basically, anything consistent or increasing that's different from the norm not related to food variation or my normal nausea, etc.

You could stop the fish oil and see if things change.

Hi Quincy, why the recommendation to stop the fish oil? I thought fish oil was supposed to be good for UC?

I've used nightly Rowasas forever, just the standard bottle (is there more than one kind)?

Fish oil doesn't agree with everyone...just a suggestion. But you are flaring.
Rowasa comes in 2g and 4g dosages...I'll assume its 4g.

You could request to add a steroid foam enema for daytime use...see if that helps.

is it more likely a hemmie than UC?

Could also be an abscess.

I couldn't sit after surgery and it was because of ulcers and a twisted intestine
