An interesting one, don't read much about us having an abnormal virome it affecting IBD...

At a Glance

Viruses isolated from people with inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD, triggered inflammation in human cells and mice, while those from non-diseased guts didn’t.

The findings suggest that transplanting certain viruses could serve as a potential treatment for IBD and other intestinal diseases.

I for one will be very happy if they can show my UC is caused by a virus (wasn't there a group in japan working on that theory? )

Well CoVID did trigger a flare for some IBD folk so I would imagine a virus could be responsible too. Anything that contributes to an infection potentially can trigger a flare or even start the disease if it is severe enough and the conditions already exist or have been created in the body until that point. Which is why there is a lot of emphasis on keeping one’s immunity strong

A one off infection is a bit different from the permanent virome though?

Would almost be great if an identifiable virus was the cause. Then at least something can be done about it.
