Hello. An update. I went back to the ER and was admitted. The specialist agreed to see me. Based on a new CT scan the inflammation is worse and further up than my sigmoid colon. I am currently prepping and will have a colonoscopy tomorrow afternoon. (I also tested positive for COVID but have no symptoms so that’s why my scope was pushed off a day to assess the risk of proceeding, the specialist feels we need to tackle it tomorrow). He suspects UC but wants to rule out Crohn’s and has indicated that Mesalamine and steroids aren’t the course of action anymore and wants to start me on biologics due to severity of the inflammation.
Answers at last. I have no qualms about
the biologics as the specialist seems confident and explained things well. Here’s to a light at the end of the tunnel

Hi I am sorry you had to go back to ER but happy you finally get to see a specialist and have a colonoscopy! I hope also your covid stays mild. I would also have no qualms about
biologics; clearly the other meds aren't helping you!
One of my biggest regrets on my treatment path was not starting biologics earlier (not that I had a choice; at the mercy of the doctors).
Too bad that things had to escalate before they take you seriously. But, you are being looked after now. Hope you get some relief soon.

Good thinking on going to ER. Unfortunately this disease can be so severe but getting a GI specialist can be a long process as there are too few of them and too much disease out there. Let us know how your colonoscopy goes. I like that your dr was insistent on addressing this immediately. That’s a good sign!

Good luck with the procedure finally arranged. Sorry that you had to jump through so many hoops to get proper attention. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

It's frustrating when we have to get severely ill before we get someone to help. Hopefully, your Covid is mild and doesn't delay starting the biologics. Do you know which one they are recommending?

Guys, I guess I am on the wrong thread now. I have Crohn’s disease. Isolated to my colon. They were only able to scope about
15cm due to severity of inflammation but took a biopsy to confirm what the GI observed.

He is letting me choose between Humira or remicade. He feels both would work towards our goal of remission.

No problem posting here, the crohns forum is dead. I am assuming your diagnosis was made on the visual exam, biopsies take a week to ten days to come back from the lab.
Remicade would be my choice if this were me, it has a longer track record & works faster than Humira. Humira is a slower acting medication. I have crohns & it worked better for me than Humira.
Remicade is given by infusion, Humira is an injectable pen that you give yourself.
Good luck with whatever decision you make.
