GI nurse called today and informed me that I came positive for C Diff. Suppose to start antibiotics.

Then actual GI called me and told me that the pathologist indicated the biopsy was cancer. My GI said he is very confused bc his visual during the scope was clear Crohn’s and no indication of cancer. He said it would be very unusual if it was cancer at this point

Re-doing colonoscopy Wednesday along with MRI and endoscopy. My CT scan from my hospital stay last week didn’t show any masses anywhere other than retroperiodonial adenopathy.

I have a couple of hospital oncology pharmacologists who are good buddies of mine that seem to think it’s unlikely I have cancer and if I do, it would be an early stage

As far as the Crohn’s I’ve been on steroids for three days and the pain is better and BMs are less, just the stool is nothing to brag about.

Has this happened to anyone else? Conflicting reports?

Yikes! You're definitely getting more than your share of obstacles to definitive diagnosis. We've had many complicated cases crop up here on the forum over time-- so, hopefully, you'll get feedback on coping with conflicting lab reports. C-Diff requires vancomycin treatment, and there are dozens of reports on that to look up here. Sounds reasonable that specialist will get you the upper endoscopy & MRI soon; probably you should have received those exams during hospital stay. Technical medical terminology may be found via Mayo Clinic online, patient info section. Hopefully the steroids will enable your doctor to visualize the colon at 2nd scope higher up than 15 cm.-- because it's important to reach the terminal ileum in case of Crohn's. Hang in there! Good that you have pharmacy buddies for support on the pathology issue to-date. I can imagine how unsettling it was to hear a mention of cancer just now. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

wow! Hopefully the cancer diagosis was a lab error. You will know more after further testing.

C-diff is highly contagious so be sure to clean carefully, and frequently with bleach during and after treatment to make sure no one else in your household catches it and you don't get reinfected.

When you talk to your doc again ask him what he means by it being clearly Crohns based on what he saw. He didn't scope very far. Also ask for a copy of the pathology report so you can see exactly what it says.

So sorry you are having to deal with all of this.

I wonder if the lab mixed your results up with someone else's. Still, with a crohns diagnosis it's not a bad idea to do an endoscopy, to see if there is inflammation elsewhere. Better too many tests than too few.
Sorry that you have to suffer like this. We are rooting for you here!

Thanks all. My GI seemed very dubious about the pathology report. With the mucosal visuals and stricture he seemed pretty adamant it was Crohn’s. Said this would be very unusual. I will hope and pray as I’m 33 with a young family and this would be devastating. CT scan did not show tumors, some retroperitoneal node swelling, but that can be due to the Crohn’s

Wow...that's certainly a confusing and scary conflicting diagnosis. I hope that during the full colonoscopy that the doc will take plenty of biopsies.
What meds are you on for c.diff?
I also hope that if there was a mix of patient biopsies, and yours is truly negative for cancer, that the other patient is found and retested.
Looking forward to your update on Wednesday.

So sorry you are going thru this. Hopefully your next round of tests will give you clarification.

Hang in there.

You're in my prayers.
Clo

P. S. I did have a scope that showed dysplasia in the biopsy butnot according to my colorectal surgeon. We went right back in , (within the week) and did more tests. Everything turned out ok... But now they check me every year.... And so far they've all been ok. It's very scarey though. You feel sorta alone cause you don't want to upset your family anymore than you have to. I am wishing you the best, crossing my fingers, and sending healing thoughts plus prayers your way.

So sorry. I can imagine the confusion and fear you’re experiencing! I had a scare many years ago. Had a weird growth on my cheek. Dermatologist removed it then the biopsy came back positive for some kind of certain cells and she told me the diagnosis was lymphoma. Or possibly something called a pseudo lymphoma. Scared the sh!T out of me as I was much younger then too. Went to a cancer dr who told me if it was lymphoma it was the slow growing kind and it could take 20 years to develop. That was fun to live with! Well I never developed lymphoma and it’s been 20 years or so…

Try to stay calm and not let your mind go to the what-ifs. Easier said than done right! Hoping you get answers soon!
