Old Mike (the voice of reason on this crazy site),

I hope you are doing better since your incident last year. 2 quick questions:

1) You said in a post today...."ate lacto fermented pickle and went into a bad flare"....any thoughts about why exactly that happened?
2) I think you once said that you felt your overactive immune system with UC contributed to injuries and illnesses not clearing up very well. Is this correct? How did you solve that issue?

1. Homemade fermented pickles, suspect huge amounts of lacto bacteria, only ate small piece.
Used proper fermentation methods. Thats what I am getting at when I suggest to search for peroxides
and lacto bacteria.
2. Any time hurt myself if I did not take naproxen right away it would progress to
real pain. Only solution was prednisone. Another time sore throat antibiotics fixed I suspect,
went into burning mouth syndrome went to gp 25 mg pred pack, fixed for a week until pred
wore off. Came back, endured for 2 months until it also started attacking inside ears. Went to ENT,
60mg 2 week pred taper, fixed it. He listened to me when I told him how to fix,25 mg pred pack not long enough or strong enough. Many other times had to use short course pred.

but isnt lactobacilli and bifidobacteria meant to be good probiotics to take for gut health esp so for IBD?

Thanks. I do not understand all this hydrogen peroxide stuff that has been debated.

Is the assertion that high amounts of the probiotics mentioned above could actually induce UC attacks in those of us who are genetically susceptible?

Don't know.
If bacteria somehow breach the mucus barrier that can cause colitis,if not controlled.
I always had trouble with probiotics, but that was after UC not before.

The reaction to pickles may have been due to the presence of sulphites. I think sulphate reducing bacteria can use sulphites and they seem to be part of the issue in UC or at least some iterations of it. I was recommended apple cider vinegar by various sources but it seems to cause minor irritation (could be something else though) and have just seen that it also can contain sulphites.
