This Friday, I'm getting my first colonoscopy since starting Xeljanz about 15 months ago. I recently posted about some mild GI symptoms I was having. They seem to have mostly gone away after upping my Xeljanz dose for a few weeks, but I still don't seem completely 100%, although nothing I'm really worried about--no pain, no blood or mucous, no diarrhea--just sometimes my BMs are all mush, sometimes quite thin/narrow, and some days I don't go at all. I feel like maybe this could also possibly be from nicotine gum not agreeing with me (I still haven't gotten off of the gum...trying). Anyway, hoping for a good colonoscopy report. I'm also getting surgery at the same time to have an anal condyloma lesion removed. I had this done once before in 2015 and flared after the surgery. My surgeon says there is a chance this could happen again. I'm really hoping it does not. I'm glad she can do both the surgery and my scope at the same visit though.

Anyway, think of me tomorrow while I spend my day starving, and my evening chugging GoLytely in the bathroom while applying A&D ointment in between bathroom trips (little tip I picked up here on HW many years ago!).

I hope you are all well.

Oh okay, yes I will be thinking of you and sending "good wish" vibes your way! Hope the prep goes well and the scope too.

I was the same before my scope 2 weeks ago, felt sure something would show on the scope as bms just weren't 100% but it was normal.
I'm still awaiting biopsy results to be 100% sure but it looks like I'm in remission.
Good luck with your scope and surgery and the lovely prep too šŸ˜‰

Oh such fun you’re going to be having! 🤣

Seriously I look forward to the procedure itself so I can sleep! Hate the prep. We’ll not even the prep — it’s all the pooping it brings on.

One of my issues (besides sore butt syndrome — which you’re right about: wipes and ointment from the start and don’t wait for the soreness because that will only get worse once it starts) is I get migraines anyway and the dehydration always gives me one the procedure morning. So now I alway take a sumatriptan that morning. And I’ve found that drinking Gatorade and coconut water seem to help also.

Will be thinking of you. Let us know how it goes!

Yes, I know you're jealous! Lol. But yes, I'm looking forward to the nap.

I get migraines too. I asked if I could take a sumatriptan the morning of the procedure in case I get one and they told me no. They said to just let the hospital know if I get one and they can give me something (Im guessing via IV?). Hopefully I don't get one.

Thank you! I will let you all know the results, for sure.

Wow (re the ā€œnoā€ on the sumatriptan). I asked my dr and he said ok. One time before my procedure I got a major one and they wouldn’t give me anything because my GI isn’t the one with the prescription (I guess? Maybe they just didn’t want to). They did let me take one I had in my purse with a tiny sip of water tho. The hospital I go to no longer gives us an IV before the procedure. I wish they would because that fluid does help. They hook up the linke but don’t give anything until the procedure room

Crossing my fingers for no migraines!!!!

Oh, interesting.
Yeah, it's real weird. It's my rectal surgeon doing it but she does lots of scopes. My current GI lives 4 hours away. I really should find a local one again. We'll see how it goes. I've never had her scope me before. I didn't even think about them not giving me imitrex if needed. Why is everything such a hassle sometimes...? Lol. I hopefully won't even need it anyway.

Remission. Boom. (At least according to how things looked...she did take several biopsies throughout).

Had Jimmy Johns afterwards. smile They hydrated me so much with the IV that I woke up and the first thing I said was I have to pee super bad. Lol. And then I kept repeating it. I was scared I might wet the bed.

Thanks all.

Congrats Sara!

I’ve found that even in remission there are blips and days when things are off. Some days I’m a little constipated others a little crampy. Some days I just don’t feel real well. It usually doesn’t last long. I suppose ā€œnormalā€ people have off days with their digestive systems too.

Thanks all! Hopefully the HPV surgery doesn't make me flare again now. I think this is the first time in 15 years I've EVER had a totally normal looking colonoscopy while not on steroids.

Charlie: Thank you! I still don't know. I upped my Xeljanz for about 3 weeks and have been back on the lower dose for 1 week and been fine other than my stools are often really narrow, but the colorectal surgeon said she saw no evidence at all of a recent flare (I'm not exactly sure what this means though...I'll discuss her results/report with my GI sometime soon). My recent symptoms maybe could've been from nicotine replacement? I was going back and forth and struggling with quitting smoking. My body doesn't like nicotine at all (it never helped my UC). Like, maybe that caused a minor flare? Just guessing at things though. I really have no idea. I don't think it was an infection. It's pretty odd.

Flowers: Thank you. Yes, I agree and have had the same with just a day or 2 feeling "off" but this lasted longer recently and my calpro was elevated. So who knows. I'm not worried about it now.

Great news, and I'm happy for you that all was done at the same time.
What's the aftercare of the lesion removal?

Thanks, q. She didn't give me any restrictions or anything. They cauterized it, and I didnt even have any bleeding. Last time, in 2015, I thought she told me no running for 2 weeks, so I'm going to write her and make sure there aren't any restrictions. She gave me some pain meds, but I haven't needed any today. She recommended sitz baths also, if needed for pain.

Congrats on your remission! I must look into Xeljanz - I'm impressed that it worked so well after 4 failed biologics. I hope it carries on working for a long, long time.

Thanks! Yeah, I was surprised when it actually worked too. It seems to work for a lot of people. My boyfriend has actually been on it for about 2.5 years and in remission the whole time. I don't know about its efficacy for Crohn's.
