Amazing how I missed this info when searching beta oxidation and UC.
Right now my efforts are on diversion colitis,of my rectal stump Death Vader.
Less than 500mg orally every few days of Acetyl L Carnitine, shutting down
discharge. While butyrate might be the preferred colon cell fuel, they will
use what is in the blood supply, unless a beta oxidation block.

Mike,

Are you using this now? Is it stopping the rectal discharge? How much are you taking and where do you get it?

I gotta get mine to stop. The discharge is going out the remaining stump to the rectovagina fistula and has caused yet another UTI. Remicade/methotrexate are working from the colostomy on up. It doesn't stop all the extra intestinal symptoms or the stump from misbehaving. I am so frustrated!

So far I'm taking tumeric, 10,000 iu vitamin D, 25 billion probiotic with Lactobacillus, red yeast rice, vitamin c, 6 grams of D-Mannose powder, and 1 or 2 (36 PAKS) cranberry juice extract capsules a day.

And still the darn stump is going like a darn firehose. 😡

Well if getting UTI's i might suspect bacteria in the discharge or it is pus and not
normal discharge.
I get it in on amazon, take 500mg or less a day, bought the powder not pills.
Using acetyl L Carnitine.
Still working on this might also need occasional fish oil.
Yes cut discharge way down sometimes zero, but I may also have some pus problems myself.
always a downside though, carnitine make TAMO in gut, then may lead to cancer.
of course if eat meat then you get carnitine.
Digging out beta oxidation info is like pulling teeth, most is same old crap over and over
short chain fatty acids for diversion colitis, or carnitine shuttle only for long chain acids. Both not true. Way too many Barbie butt surgeries going on in my ostomy group on facebook.
Wish I had found that study years ago ALC might do something for UC if there is a butyrate metabolic block.
I have a lot more info in the ostomy forum in a diversion colitis thread.
May have stumbled on the fish oil was taking to try and improve ulnar nerve damage and noticed
stump output reduction. Do like since it is a blood thinner.
