I need to find some portable protein options to have with me when I’m out and about. Can’t do Premier. Tried a Fairlife core power (1/2 of the carton) tonight. Here’s hoping it’s kind to my colon.

I couldn’t do the whey protein stuff or anything soy. It was hard to find anything without tons of sugar in it too. Or artificial sweeteners. But there are a few out there. I found some grass fed meat sticks with not a lot of additives and those worked well. I can’t recall the names of the company now tho. Sorry. Bone broth is really good. Collagen powder too , if you can find a purely natural one. Vital proteins makes a collagen powder but not sure how “pure” it is anymore. You can add that to bone broth for more nourishment.

Thank you! My nutritionist hasn’t offered me near the information that you just provided.

I like fasting instead - food can sometimes be our enemy. I’ll do a 24, 48, or 72 hour fast. I can do without food for few days and it lets my GI tract relax.

Honestly, I’d rather just skip a couple of meals - more benefits than downsides

I wish fasting was an option for me, like for Keith! I don’t carry any extra body weight, and my blood sugar (?) / stress hormones need pretty regular protein.

I haven’t found packaged convenience food protein that works for me. When I go to work, I take a lunch box with a cold pack and bring along Greek yogurt (dairy doesn’t seem to bother me) and leftovers. For traveling, I’ve learned I can swing through a drive-through and get whatever the grilled chicken sandwich or wrap is. I might only eat the chicken itself, but it’s a good protein hit.

I wish nuts and seeds were a more efficient protein source, but I also eat those (as butters when I’m flaring). Cottage cheese is great but all the commercial blends have carageenan, which I try to avoid.

Our nutritional needs sometimes feel totally out of sync with busy modern life! Would love to hear others’ tips and tricks.

I enjoy cottage cheese. It’s just not a travel protein. Had a fairlife core protein this am. ( other half) and so far so good.

MLST, I don't think Keith knows your history with the weight loss, fasting during a flare is not the way to go. The body needs good nutrition to help heal.

You can do an internet search for high protein foods, snacks & will find many options. I eat a lot of peanut butter, I peel apples & cut them into section with peanut butter. I also like celery in small amounts with peanut butter. I do take a potato peeler to the celery to get the fibrous strings off, lol.

You can buy a lunchbox size insulated soft sider that will keep food cold, throw in some plastic silverware.

Are you diabetic?

Grilled/roast chicken is also my go-to protein when flaring. Fasting is an absolute no-no. I get dizzy and shakey and headaches if I skip meals, and flaring only makes this worse due to malabsorption. I'd imagine 72 hour fasting is pretty dangerous for most people if you're out and about.

Some people have found relief on the SCD-IBD diet. Eggs were my go-to. Although some diets list them as not good, I never had a problem with them. I craved protein, I think because I was so malnourished. I also made turkey/chicken/pork meatballs (I used turkey and pork, but you could use any of the 3 — the pork gave it more flavor I think) with a dash of pure maple syrup and an egg — bake them in the oven and then stick them in a freezer bag to pull out several at a time and pop in the microwave for a fast protein snack.

I like the blueberry RX bars. No funky ingredients and I tolerate them very well.

There are individual packets of almond butter by the brand Justin's that are good. They even have chocolate varieties. 200 calories per packet and you can just squeeze it right out into your mouth. If you want easy-to-digest protein powder for a smoothie or shake, look at pea protein powder or brown rice protein powder. I've been vegan for 11 years so all my recommendations for food are vegan. I do eat a lot of oatmeal. Is there a reason you don't want to eat it and think you need more protein? Most people actually get way more protein than they need.

Thanks to you all for the suggestions! Thankfully, I do not have diabetes. I’ll look in to all of these ideas.
