Sja13, when will you be seeing your dr again? If you are not seeing any improvement perhaps send your dr a note through the patient portal. No question about it now, you have UC.

I hope you get to feeling better.

Hi...seems confirmed UC. Thanks for the pathology results. I hope your doc adds additional medications to get healing on the way...I suggest Mesalamine oral and rectal retention enemas...see how you do and maybe further meds will be needed.

Are you trying any probiotics? VSL#3 helps me. How is your diet? Consider decreasing high fiber intake for now.
How is your sleeping? Are you getting enough rest? How is your stress level? Obviously you were predisposed for UC but There’s gotta be a reason why you flared now. so whatever it was try to scale it back.

Also found VSL#3 beneficial but the dose needed (3600 billion cfu's/day for adults from trials) is very expensive if, as in my case, GP's or GI's, refuse to prescribe. There is a coupon scheme from the manufacturers in the US and It's possibly more readily prescribed there?

One bottle here in the US is about $65. I take two pills three times a day. It’s not terribly expensive. But then I’ve never calculated how many cfu’s that is. It helps me a lot to solidify stuff from top down. But it can only reach so far down

I will be seeing my GI doctor on Friday to get a game plan in place. Starting my list of questions now. So any advice on what I should be discussing with him would be helpful. I have been on mesalamine oral and budesonide. I do feel as though my bleeding has decreased a little so hoping that means something is going in the right direction. I am taking probiotics but not the ones you have listed, so pricey!

What probiotics are you taking...my suggestion is to use multi-strain for sure. It doesn't have to be what others are taking...there are many available. Especially when cost is a factor. My husband uses the Jamieson multi from Costco...plus they have Reuteri as one of the strains...and he's done very well with them.

When is your visit with the GI? Request...meaning to insist on retention enemas 4g.
I take it the budesonide is oral?

Align probiotic for women’s health…probably need to do more research on my options but I made a quick decision at the pharmacy when this was all starting 🤷🏻‍♀️

And yes the budesonide is oral. I was on mesalamine suppositories for a short time but he had me stop taking them when I started the oral mesalamine. I see him on Friday.

Wow...why stop the suppositories... it's a both-end approach. And...UC starts at the rectum! Anyway...request the enemas.

And just a reminder...he just might say that they won't help because you have pancolitis....not true. Treat the areas of rectum, sigmoid and into the descending. The suppositories are limited in dosage and action, but they are better than nothing.
Make a list of questions, etc, and be armed with information.

Re probiotics...Align is only one strain, low dosage and cost is high for just that. When you're done with that, venture into others.
I take mine at bedtime, no discomfort from gas, and good when the digestive tract is not as active.

Let us know how your appt goes. It's good you're starting to feel better.

Unsure why he told me I could stop. I still have them so maybe I will start again and see if there is more improvement before my appointment. Thanks for the tip on the probiotics!

Good idea on the suppositories. Looking forward to your update with the GI.
