Need a quick update. People that get Prolia injections in US can you help? I am very confused on how to proceed. Endocrinologist that is not local and I had only video visits with wants me to start Prolia. He said to contact my local PCP or gyno. He said prolia gets injected in doctor's office only and will be paid by medical insurance as a bundle medication + service. So i figured it would be like my Entyvio, i just show up and get the service and it gets billed through my commercial medical insurance. I contacted my gyno but she sent the script to the pharmacy. I called the pharmacy they said it has to go to the specialty pharmacy. I called the specialty pharmacy they can not find me in the system. How is your Prolia prescribed? Does it go to the office that administer it or you bring it? Is it covered by medical or drug overage?
Looking for some information to figure out who to call and how to proceed. Thank you.

For my husband, endocrinologist procures it from the SpeciaIty Pharmacy and then he goes into the endocrinologist office for the injection. I think there are shelf-life / storage requirements which is why it is handled by doc office.

My doctor sends a script to the specialty pharmacy. The medicine gets sent to my doctor's office and I get the shot there.

I would go with the dr I can see the easiest & not have to wait a long time to be seen. The dr orders it & once they have received it, you go get the shot.

I'm sorry that you have had such a problem getting this set up.

Thank you for all your responses. After calling around and spending hours otp the medicine will be sent to the doc office.

Regarding the storage: it needs to be stored in the fridge. I'm allowed to pick it up from the pharmacy and store it in my own fridge until my appointment, but, I'm outside the US.

Gloria-- please keep us updated on your situation with Prolia, also if you get to see the experienced endocrinologist who is booked for months ahead. Sending you very best wishes for good help (at last) with this problem that's been bothering you for some time! / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)
