Hello everyone, it's been a while since I last posted here. To give you a little bit of background, I've been diagnosed with pancolitis since 2011. I certainly had some struggles with it over the years, but seem to be more or less stable lately. At the end of October, I had a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. The colonoscopy came back clear. The endoscopy also visually looked good. However, the endoscopy results showed moderate gastritis due to h. pylori. The interesting thing is, my GI team never communicated this to me. I found this myself in the biopsy files of the patient portal. Is this something I should be concerned about? I reached to my GI, but haven't heard back yet.

I don't have any major upper GI symptoms, just increased upper gas and occasional heartburn. I know that h. pylori treatment consists of antibiotics. I certainly am very scared to pursue that. Now that my colitis is more or less stable, I would hate to do anything to aggravate it. If anyone has any experience with h. pylori treatment, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Absolutely it's of concern! You should be treated with antibiotics with PPI for 2 weeks.
You do not want an h.pylori infection to be lingering. It can cause ulcers and stomach cancer.
My husband had it and was treated. So far no issues.

Years ago h-pylori was found on my colonoscopy & my dr put me on antibiotics immediately. You need to get in contact with your dr asap, Quincy is correct on what can happen if left untreated. Most people can tolerate antibiotics as long as they take a good probiotic. Don't delay this.

Thank you for the responses. The doctor did come back to me prescribing the triple therapy, which includes two antibiotics. He did say I might have an adverse reaction to them given my UC diagnosis. This is a great concern to me, as I only recently was able to get my UC in remission, so wouldn't want to mess it up. I asked the doctor what the urgency level is for treating the infection, and he said it's low since I don't have any visual change in the stomach. I'm thinking to explore some holistic approaches of treating it.

Wow...I'm shocked at your response. I would never give it a second thought to not take them and not deal with it asap. It's only 2 weeks and hopefully will deal with it forever. Low level...best case scenario or wait until it gets well embedded into the lining and causes damage.

Take probiotics...use the enemas nightly while doing the regimen. And don't skip the omeprazole...it's used to keep the abx in the stomach longer so it will be treated more effectively.
