Hello All,

My UC is first diagnosed in 2006. Since then I'm taking Colozal 700mg 3/3 times a day. During the initial 2 years used Canasa repositories for few times and never used them all these years. I don't have any flareups and UC is stable as per GI. I did a colonoscopy in 2018 and again in August 2022. After seeing my colon in August my GI told me everything looks normal and no traces of inflammation. He asked me to cut down my dosage from 9 a day to 6 a day (3 X 2 times). But my confusion part is with my weight and stools. I was not able to gain weight no matter what I try. Daily I go to the restroom two times in the morning and I literally have a big bowel movement with a feeling of everything came out. The way I see it is that I weigh my weight the previous day night and I weigh again after the bowel movement. Now I can see reducing the weight. I have challenges gaining even 1 pound in a month. My BMI is perfect, but I wanted to put on at least 5 pounds to see some flesh and not be skinny. Not sure what to do. My GI says everything is good. But if everything is why can't I gain at least 1 pound is my confusion. Any input or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Everyone loses weight overnight ... even before a bowel movement. I suggest checking your weight at the same time every day for a few days and see what that looks like,

Try adding some calorie dense foods to your daily diet. If you like smoothies you can pack a bunch of calories in them. That should help you to gain weight. If you eat nuts or nut butters they also can add calories quickly.

I agree with CC.

Add some calorie high foods to your diet...I added a nutritional shake, scd yogurt with fresh fruit and nut butters with crackers. Try to eat every 2 hours. You could also keep track of your calorie intake and expenditures.

Good luck!

Last winter my weight was too low after serious flare, and I increased it by eating extra snacks with butter and nut butters: I made blueberry muffins with flax seeds and would warm up two each night for a bedtime snack, eating them with either warm melted butter or almond butter. It did the trick! Nuts are a very calorie-dense food.

I also ate full-fat Greek yogurt instead of skim, which I usually do. I seem to need much more protein than I ever realized before, and adding in more protein overall has helped me gain and then maintain not just weight but a feeling of fuller health.

Thank you much for your replies
How many days or months it took for you to see changes and gain weight?
I will start trying the above listed items
