The problem with trying several things at the same time is that you won't know what is actually helping.
I've struggled with this so many times over the years. When in a flare I throw everything I can muster at it...when things calm down, it's difficult to know exactly what has worked. The scientific method be damned, I just want to get better!
For instance, I started Remicade almost a year ago. At around 29 weeks of no improvement I was ready to give up, as was my GI. Oddly, at the same time I developed pain that sent me to the ER. Its cause was never determined, but my GI suggested Prilosec should it happen again. It did happen again, I took a 14-day course of Prilosec, my pain disappeared, but as importantly, so did my flare, to the point where am I as "normal" as I can reasonably expect to be.
Remicade finally worked? Prilosec changed my PH so that mesalamine released more effectively? Environmental? I don't know, but I keep a pack of Prilosec around, and continue my Remicade.
To make matters even more muddy, I was on QD for around a month just prior to the aforementioned pain (hence the nexus to this thread). I stopped it when the pain started, just because I wasn't sure if it was at fault. But maybe it had something to do with my symptom improvement?
