My insurance FINALLY approved my iron infusions. They approved me to get 5 infusions of Venofer over 5 weeks and I start Feb 20. I’m getting married in April so I hope that I’m feeling great for it.
Pretty nervous for them but also so excited to feel better as far as my energy goes. My hemoglobin is at 9.2, although it’s been lower on this UC journey. My ferritin is a 5. So needless to say I live each day feeling pretty tired. I’ve been anemic since my diagnosis of UC almost 4 years ago now. Tried iron pills and they didn’t work and fought with insurance a while for infusions. Glad they finally did something for my benefit.
I hope these infusions work! Fingers crossed!

Congrats on getting the infusion approved. A lot of people can't tolerate the iron pills. Hopefully you will be feeling much better for your big day in April. Keep us posted.

That's good news! My gastroenterologist subspecializes in IBD treatment and says that iron infusion is the better way to supplement-- because ingested iron (such as pills) can clump in our intestines and actually irritate the mucosa. Hopefully you'll be in a more energetic state soon to plan for The Big Day. / Old Hat (40+ yrs with left-sided UC; in remission taking Colazal)

@HaleyA Unfortunately, I have not been retested. My doctor wanted to wait for 4 weeks to retest. But, I can definitely tell a difference in my energy level and how I feel. I've had iron infusions about 4 different times. I've had 2 different kinds of iron and the both worked very well. Hopefully, you have really good results as well.

I had my first one today and it was a breeze. It was an iron push actually. She set up the iv and then pushed the iron in with a syringe and then ran fluids for 30 minutes after that.
I wish Inflectra was that fast ha ha
1 down, 4 to go! I hope it gives me energy.
