Just started the rectal foam last night and day 2 of the oral steroid. And I’ve just had an upset stomach - I was hoping these would bulk me up solid not make my symptoms worse?

Any one else experienced this? Should I stop the foam?

Many thanks

Too early to stop yet IMO. Give it some time. Sometimes the flare can make you nauseous.

The foam is unlikely to cause nausea. Did you take the oral steroid with food or on an empty stomach? From my own experience I recommend taking it with a small amount of bland food you tolerate best at this point, then also drink a glass of water, slowly. Be kind to yourself, take your time, some deep breathing might help you to swallow and retain the minimum. Then you can proceed from there. After you take the oral for a few days it should start reviving your appetite. The foam should calm your rectum, but that could take a week of use or longer before you get better reduction in bms. It takes patience and rest to tame a severe flare, in addition to the Rx meds. / Old Hat

I had diarreah using the foam no sickness. These meds are meant to be making me more solid / control not worse!!!!!

I was on azaphoprine which worked but sadly now they are trying other meds and I feel my quality of life is over.

I understand that you feel your life is over!!!! It happens to most of us IBDers at 1 time or another. But really, you have to give the Rx treatment a good shot unless you want to get hospitalized on IVs or whatever. I had to get off a med that helped me for 14 years, then it suddenly turned on me so that my left side felt like a hole was being chewed into it! Scary! Then my gastroenterologist enrolled me in an oral drug trial that finally gave me my major break-through to remission. Try to use the foam after you empty out then lie down flat on your back for 30-60 minutes. If you still have to expel it right away, phone your prescribing doctor to explain what's happening. Foam retention is generally easier to hold onto than liquid retention enemas, especially early in treatment when the rectum is severely inflamed. Keeping the foam inside for a couple hours at least should start helping to reduce the inflammation of mucosa, though you might still have D for a while. Usually the bleeding will stop 1st then waste will gradually firm up and mucus eventually stops coming out with every dump in the loo. / Old Hat.

I want the foam too, but I'm told I can't get it anymore...at least in Canada. Is this true? Anyone know this?

Sassy...what foam exactly? Only steroid foams, not mesalamine.
