I know this is old news, but a man named Kenny Honnas claims his diet, which included a lot of kefir, grass fed steak, and blueberries, along with fasting and exercise is keeping him in remission to this day. He has a pretty straightforward video and I was thinking of copying it to a T, eating 2 meals, 6 hours apart, exactly the same things he ate in the video day after day and seeing if I get results. I just think I need to imitate success and since nobody knows crap about UC I think I should copy exactly everything he did. Has anyone done this?

Why would you think that random guy eating grass fed animals knows more than doctors? Not trying to be mean, I just dont get it. I'll continue with my meds and vegan diet (not for UC).

Because he has actually had the disease and had to go through trial and error to get results. Sometimes trial and error is the only way and a doctor obviously wouldn’t have gone through that.

I’m of the mind that a healthy diet certainly is not going to hurt and will most likely help in lots of areas of your health. However I personally don’t believe a diet/food choices will cure UC. I bought a cookbook after my diagnosis — well several actually— by a lady who said she cured her UC by going gluten free. Did not work for me.

That being said everyone is different and there are some people who have done very well with their UC through diet.

You can always try.

Diet helps some people (a minority).

Remember that what works for one person does not make it a cure for everyone, and noone is so super smart that they managed to devise a universal diet that works for everyone.

It's ok to try alternative treatments ... and they do sometimes work. Just know when to say when if they don't work. Following internet experts can be a very deep, never ending, rabbit hole.

There are many people on meds who have been in remission for many years ... so keep in mind that there is success with medical treatments too.

Food won't cure you. Try to eat as balanced If you're able. If you don't want to take meds that's your decision, and no one can force you, however, we can try to encourage you to be your own advocate and hopefully proactive in your care and wellbeing.

Firstly, you aren't an expert on what can help you... why are you believing and making "knowledgable" statements supporting what some self-acclaimed expert says on YouTube? Secondly, you'll never get better info than you will on this forum's varied experiences and outcomes. Thirdly, learn what and whom to trust...but you won't cure yourself. Fourthly, as a matter of fact...how you're talking is called the path of utter denial.

Respectfully,
q

I am currently on a very similar diet to what Kenny Honnas recommends (vegetarian, though). Because I'm flaring and can't tolerate anything else, I am on a liquid diet at the moment. My liquid diet is a giant smoothie with homemade raw goat milk kefir, banana, peanut butter, cinnamon, chia seed, and slippery elm.

Pros:
- The kefir has definitely changed my microbiome. My stools don't have that signature foul odor that they've had in previous flares. Now they smell like kefir. Very inoffensive.

Cons:
- I don't think this diet alone is enough to induce remission for someone like me. I have never been able to enter remission without steroids. As such, I am trying out a few other supplements to try and induce remission.

As far as food goes, what works for one might not work for another. QUINCY said it best!
