How many of us get kidney stones? Recurrent kidney stones?

I'm so disappointed. I increased my liquid intake and have been watching my diet..... I had that kidney stone laser surgery last September.... The x-ray after the surgery showed a 2 mm "gray area" that the urologist swore wasn't a stone....

And I developed my first "oh no" feeling last week. The urinalysis didn't show bacteria but it did show nitrates and a pH at 6. The doctor went ahead and put me on antibiotics and had the scan just in case....

CT shows 2 kidneys stones over 3.2 mm in size. Apparently I'm turning into a kidney stone farm/factory...😭😭😭.

Suggestions?

Oh and does lemon juice/vinegar really help dissolve or prohibit their growth?

Hi Clo...thats a lot of suffering as I understand from others I know who had them.
Do you know what kind of kidney stones you tend to get?
It seems food diet changes was suggested...but was medication as well as specific food diet changes re what kind of stones suggested to help dissolve and prevent them?
I've never had them, but I looked up some suggestions re dealing with the condition. A start anyway?

My last urologist that performed the kidney laser surgery didn't get the stones he removed tested so I have no idea.

I've been reading up on kidney stones again but there's so much information....and sites that say this helps and other sites saying something different.

I'm so disappointed. I don't think the guy I went to was very good....but I did only go with him because it was an emergency blockage situation and he was the doctor at that hospital that could get me in right away. I should have waited.....

I have two very small stones. My doctor recommended Moonstone Stone Stopper. You can get it on Amazon. He also gave me a medication just in case I have issues with these two stones. Doctor is monitoring them every few months.

Thanks!

I'm going to look into that. I was reading online about Apple cider vinegar, olive oil and lemon juice.

It is not a good breakfast drink or for the feint hearted...🤢🤢🤮

Oxalates are in foods that can cause stones
Nuts
Chocolate
Spinach
Beets
Tea etc etc
You can google top 10 things that can cause stones.
My urologist put me on potassium citrate 3x day with meals. Has definitely helped
It helps keep Uric acid stones from forming.

A long time ago 3X wrote how excruciating they were. I had hoped that it was not as bad for women. Years later I was on the toilet peeing, the stone obstructed my urinary tract and I literally passed out on the toilet for a few seconds. I came to when my nose was almost hitting the floor. My heart rate then went crazy...unsure if it was the pain or what.

It was really painful for me. But I might just be a wimp. Lol..

I don't think you are being a wimp. That sounds super scary! I really hope they can figure out a solution to this for you soon.

The medication my doctor gave me when I have issues is Tamsulosin...0.4 milligrams. It's supposed to open up the urinary track when the stones pass to make it less painful

First thing every morning. Big glass of water…add 2 tbs of ACV and 2 tbs of ā€œSanta Cruzā€ (sold at Walmart in a bottle) organic lemon juice. Chug it. Then drink another 4 ounces or so of water to get it all down. Then immediately follow with listerine or an equivalent mouth rinse to get all that acidity off your teeth. Then don’t eat or drink or take anything into your mouth for 1/2 hour.

After all my research this is the ticket.

Rusty,
That's the stuff I tried. It would probably be good on a salad ...lol... For breakfast it made me hurl.... I'll try it again but later on in the day.

Michelejc,
I called the small town pharmacy here in my town...it's not a nationwide thing it is a stand alone. A woman that works there had laser surgery before I did last year ..she told me about her experience before my surgery. Thank God ...she helped set my expectations accordingly.

Anyway...she was there today. They do not have Moonstone there....BUT...she gets hers over the Internet or at Walmart. She had a piece of her stone that was left behind too..(we must have used the same guy...lol) and she took Moonstone plus did Rusty's ACV stuff. It's been over a year now and she just had follow up x-ray, sonogram and a CT to make sure.... No stone.

I am so gonna try that stuff.... I hope it works!!

They had it at Walmart....lol...

I rush d over and bought their last two bottles on the floor so I felt like I was really special. Lol.... Yea I know. It doesn't take much for me.

I started them today...and I did the lemon juice ACV and olive oil....on my salad....so it wasn't too bad.

Cross your fingers! I'll let you know if we see any difference or if I feel an different.

3X...I did talk to my urogynecologist and she said that she doesn't think I will need the script with using the Moonstone Stone Stopper. She also said that the one stone that is traveling down is distal? And that I shouldn't need meds to relax since it's distal. But if we don't see some changes she will give me the script. Apparently the stone stopper was developed by doctors and is supposed to work... I hope I'm not just being her lab rat.....

Michelejc...have you noticed any difference? And can you please keep me updated....,?

Michelejc,

Have they done any X-rays or scans on your stones? Are they getting smaller? And how much do you take a day?.I bought the capsules..... Will this dissolve preexisting stones and did they indicate how quickly it works?

My urogynocologist said that they usually refer stones out to someone else but that with a 3.2 size stone I should pass it with no problem. Then she just dropped it...so I thought that it's no big deal unless I have pain.

I have not contacted the guy that did my original.kidney stone laser surgery. He missed a 2.2 or 2.5mm piece during my surgery. He isn't big on pain meds or antibiotics.

Now I am wanting to go to Colorado. I am still peeing...not in pain but can still feel the stone traveling down..... There is a small hospital where I stay and there is Denver just a couple of hours away ... I've got an appointment with a new GI in Denver next week to see if we can build a team there so I can spend more time there.... I wonder if I should see if I can get in to a urologist there or just chance passing it on my own....

Thoughts you all?

Clo, one thing I want to pass on to you is, back when I passed a kidney stone (something I hope to never experience again), my gi & gp told me not to take any calcium supplements. People that get the stones should avoid calcium supplements in the future.

I've looked online at charts on kidney stones & the charts indicate a stone your size should pass on it's own unless it gets lodged & it prevented you from urinating.

I can't answer your question about finding another urologist in Colorado. Maybe at least get a consult I suppose.

Well forget going anywhere....I must have jynxed myself. Last night was awful. Today I tried to get in anywhere....nothing open until the 24th. They said if in pain go to ER.... they will not prescribe meds without seeing me. And they guy that did the surgery a year ago..a d missed a 2mm piece....he wanted me to make a new patient appointment to sign new paperwork cause it's been 8 months... only then would he order the images...then Id need yet another appointment to get meds or make a game plan. This is the same way he was about the results of my xrays. He refused to discuss or give results over the phone. You have to have another appointment so he can tell you the same thing he would on the phone.... it's a mess...Good grief.... Not going back there. Finally got in to a new urologist for Thursday ...

In the interim I have old meds...from the ER from 9 months ago that I'm seriously thinking about. Ketorolac.... And 8 tansulosin...(the old urologist told me not to take it..I needed surgery...so it's been sitting there .... I am so tempted.)

Michelejc,

Was desperate. I took them. They helped so much. I sent a message to my PCP. He contacted me last night. He sent in a script for same meds but I'm supposed to take them twice a day.... Celebrex for the pain...twice a day.

He told me to cancel appointment to new urologist surgeon and to wait and see if this passes on its own. He thinks it will. It's not obstructed just slow moving. If things get bad I'll go to the hospital and my urologist would see me there.

I have to wait on the Stone Stopper til I pass this one and then I can use it. He doesn't want me taking it with the other meds.

FWIW....PCP said he has patient taking the drink once a day and the 4 capsules later on that evening. He said their stone has reduced by half after 3 months....but he cautioned that this might not happen for everyone and that he doesn't know if the patient is chugging lemon juice and vinegar also. LOL.. (It sounds like something I'd do)

So we are going to give it a try after I pass this one.

Cross your fingers......

Say lots of prayers.....oh God please don't let this hurt.....
