In case anyone missed it....

https://www.healingwell.com/articles/post/2023/08/11/healing-wells-new-chapter

Question for the mods: apart from temporary downtime, will there be much change in the forums?

Thank you 😊

Interesting. I’m not sure that I received an email notice or anything. Thank you for the update.

How did you find out?

It will be nice to see some more resources invested in HW, it’s been a valuable resource to myself and the other members of HW. Hopefully the new owners can get the traffic to increase.

I got an email... to my old email address that I only check sporadically. I updated my email address on Healingwell ages ago, but somehow communications go to the old address.

When the forum comes back up, you might have to change your password.

Thanks for posting this poopydoop. I haven't received an email either and would never have seen the article. I just hope the new owners keep the same basic format and don't turn this into a new Reddit or Facebook format. There's a reason I have stayed with HW and never go to the others ... this format is the best to find and follow topics.

Emails were sporadic, not all mods received one, lol. My understanding is they will be making an announcement across the forums soon.

None of us know what changes they have in mind for HW. We will have to wait & see what is in the announcement. Time will tell if HW can be revived or not.

I watched the video with Peter in the link inside the link. It was great to see him and learn a bit about him and the history of healingwell! He did mention that one of the strong points of this platform is user anonymity, which is one of the main attractions for me (and why i don't join Facebook groups), so hopefully that aspect will stay.

I received an email on Aug 8th. I couldn't watch the video with the music 🥴(don't get how music is an enhancer), but the notice stated that not much of the format appearance will change👍🏻 Hope it keeps us updated in read only mode as to issues if we can't log in. HW does have a LOT of members...happy it'll remain!

Thanks for letting us know. I have not received an email.

Hopefully format won't change, people can remain anonymous, alternative medical discussions will be allowed along with our personal experiences and traffic will pick up.

The things that helped the most for me have been everyone sharing their personal experiences. The scientific studies are interesting but sometimes that one little thing that someone tried, medication or supplements taken....ends up being what helped me the most...

There's a post from August 10th about it in the announcements forum, which I don't know if anyone ever reads. Worth a read.

https://www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=3&m=4327339

The mods have known for a while now, had a Zoom meeting organized by the new owners but we dared not spill the beans until an official announcement was made. Overall, EHS seem eager to enhance the forums with modern technology, and drive more traffic to the site both things that will benefit us all. Peter's had a long-term relationship with EHS and trusts HW in their care.

The mods interaction with EHS thus far has been positive and they've been real fast and responsive, which is a plus. Before, getting Peter's responses for issues took many weeks or even months at times, given his busy life, illness, etc.

In our Zoom interaction with EHS, we all brainstormed together about improvements we'd like to see, from single login with Google/Facebook to make new signups easier, reintroducing the chat feature that HW discontinued a while back for reoccurring/organized/scheduled group chats, and other like things. Nothing's set in stone or committed for certain yet, but new possibilities are exciting.

I know everyone's a little nervous at change, but as an optimistic person. I'm looking forward to more attention spent to improve the site and a more responsive admin for when there's need to reach out.

I hope they don't change the format, that would be a huge undertaking. The main thing they are wanting to do is to attract more traffic to HW, via advertising as one example.

HW starting going down hill years ago, Peter Waite was struggling with a lot of issues & he was unable to keep up with the daily running of HW.

I'm optimistic with the new group, I have reached out to them twice about some issues & received prompt responses both times. This is something that has been lacking for a long time.

I believe EHS said back-end, behind the scenes update at 1st. Likely the September change. So the forums shouldn't look markedly different is my understanding when we all log back in.

Essentially just upgrading the database, and behind the scenes engine making the site easier to maintain with modern technology. Keeping the vast library of posts, keeping usernames, keeping the user experience we're all used to.

When you're returning, new passwords are mandatory. Basically a security issue, requiring more complex and longer passwords: likely a combo of upper and lowercase, numbers and symbols like any other site mandates these days.

Feature improvements would be later, I think.

If there is a single login with google or Facebook, I will delete my account. I specifically use this forum because I can keep it separate from the rest of my life.

It'd be a sign-in option for those who want to use it, but not at all mandatory. Pretty much identical to other sites I'd wager.

I'm afraid that if they require Facebook or Google log in I'll be out too.

Let's cross our fingers that they won't do that.

(I only responded so that the moderators would know that there are others out there that feel the same way and that making such a change would limit some from utilizing a valuable tool for their disease.)

I am also one who will delete my account if they have it linked to other accounts so hopefully ipoop is correct and that it won't be mandatory.

Yeah the mods shared this concern and they assured us it's optional.

Older folks, like myself, aren't eager to share real names, our social media accounts and photo, etc with this illness. I like the anonymousness here, to talk about my poop issues and fears without my family and friends seeing them in their SM feeds lol.

You'd be surprised with some of the younger patients are eager to share their photos and video shorts about their struggles. Many infusion or hospitalized selfies, or body-positive here's my weak after flare self versus healthy weight recovered self pics on Reddit as an example (and eye roll for the "Is this blood in my poop?" pics for TMI). And funny memes/jokes to lighten the mood cuz with this illness we all sometimes need a good laugh and cheering up. Good for those bold enough to share everything, more power to them and all. But you can know me as simply John/iPoop now and in the future lol. No idea if they'd allow pics or videos here, not claiming they will, just an analogy from my experience elsewhere and people's willingness to do so.

Maybe because they are younger and don't yet have a professional career so aren't really thinking about the consequences? Friends and family is one thing but I also want to keep my disease private from my colleagues at work (I have a job where I am known internationally, and professional reputation is important).

Anyway, good if the linked login is optional.

In general, people over share on social media - who needs to know every time you brush your teeth lol

Yeah, I do fear some share too much at times in the Internet without consideration of future employment impact, cuz you know employers will Google search you when considering hiring them. Will a law firm, global software company, or globally known hospitality company hire the chronic illness advocate or silly Tick Tock challenge person who went viral? Or worry about embarrassing incidents or judge the future productivity of a worker based on shared public info and choose the other candidate instead? I'm cynical that it could hurt.

Like me, I know many of you have invested coming and posting for many years at healingwell. We've staid here because of the atmosphere, community of many regular knowledge posters that we all gotten to know well, and other personal factors (that it's not Facebook, etc). I'd assume EHS will read this thread for your excitement, feedback and/or concerns. They're also answering the admin@ address you've likely used here before, and I believe they'd be fine with our regulars sending a more personal message if you have ideas, concerns, or whatever you'd rather share more privately.

Cheers!
