What does everyone take for joint pain? This is the first round of pred that I have had this much joint pain and it's really getting to me. There are times I can't even walk. Any advice?

I have always used topicals on my gastro's advice-- usually Ben Gay arthritis formula because it contains 30% salicylate but no camphor which tends to reek. Keep moving as much as possible & keep up your calcium + vita D intake. Heating or cooling the joint can also help-- this is pretty much trial & error on the patient's part to find out if one or the other will relieve the pain. Heat usually helps me. Just beware not to use heat in combination with any of the otc lotions that have warning labels against this! / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 X 3 Colazal daily for July flare in descending colon, which is responding)

I had horrible joint pain the last time I was on pred. I took 60mg for 3 days. My knees hurt so bad I literally could not get out of the bed. Hips too. Ouch....just the memory hurts! Heating pads, tylenol and warm baths really helped me. Walking and stretching (gently) helped too. It will go away as soon as you can get off the pred. Hang in there!

I always had achey elbows.  Enteric coated fish oil has helped ease this quite a bit.  Fish oil with Omega 3 is a good anti-inflammatory.  Make sure you get the enteric coated, so the fish oil reaches the intestines and not just the stomach.  Fish oil without the enteric coating also gives you fish tasting burps.  With the enteric coating you never taste anything.

I had horrible joint pain coming off of Pred and off/on a few months after. It's gotten a lot better now and seems to come and go with inflammation but nothing as near as bad as when I was coming out of a flare so I think things will look up for you after you come out of the flare and things get better. I do take a small dose of pred 5 or 10 mg depending on the pain now and then if the joints flare up. It has an immediate effect of helping with the joint pain.
