I've been on the 6MP for just a few weeks-blood work was okay the last time (although I'm still showing inflammation markers), but for the past few days, I've been experiencing flu-like symptoms usually at night.  It's pretty severe joint and muscle pain, chills (have to go under the covers with my teeth chattering), alternating with sweats, headache, increased heart rate and fatigue.  I'm in such pain I can't sleep.

At first I thought I actually caught and infection of some sort, but why would the symptoms come and go?  I'm pretty much okay during the day.  It seems like it creeps up on me after a certain amount of hours after taking a dose.  I tried taking it at night and just the schedule of the pain changed.  Anyway, I put a message into the doctor's that I'm going to stop it.  Going to Hawaii on Sunday, and no way do I want to feel like this.  Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I haven't started it yet (waiting for prometheus) but my GI said that flu like symptoms were something to watch out for when I start it. Sounds to me like you are doing the right thing though it may just need to be adjusted. I'd keep trying to reach your GI.

Have fun in Hawaii!!!

Too bad - I really hope you can get a good vacation in Hawaii. It's tough to have a trip planned and not be feeling good. Let us all know how you made out. (I can't offer any 6MP advice but wanted to wish you well.)

Hi,
I'm so sorry you are feeling bad!
I started the 6-MP on Mon. so I don't think any side effects have kicked in yet - although now that you mention it, I got cold cold cold in the middle of the night and went under the covers (we live in Vegas where I am NEVER cold) last night. I'm on pred too, sorry for the run-on sentence. My dr.did not mention any flu-like symptoms at all - I'm sort of relying on other people's first hand experiences here. Have fun in Hawaii - we were there last month!! :0)
I hope you and your GI can figure something out. Will you let us know?
Good Luck and Aloha,

Stacey

My symptoms started to continue into the day yesterday even though I had stopped the 6MP Thursday night, so maybe it's not a side effect, but I caught something.  I talked with my doctor.  He obviously agreed for me to stop the 6MP, and he did seem to think it wasn't a side effect, but I caught an infection.  He was surprised though, because this not the season for catching the flu and I didn't have a sore throat or a cough or pain when I urinate.   He said if it was a side effect I would feel better after 48 hours of taking the last pill, it should have been out of my system by then, but he had a lot of his patients on this medicine and never heard of them mention having this side effect--they did catch infections though.  I guess I'll know tonight.  I am feeling a little better today--no pain or chills so far, but I have no energy.  Hope I can pull it together by tomorrow.
