When I had pancolitis I got a lot a lot a lot of mucus and diarreha. It was pretty severe. But I didn't really get much blood (that I could see). Now that I have mild inflammation near my rectum area I'm getting a lot of blood. This seems odd to me. I would have thought I'd get more blood with severe pancolitis. Have others experienced the same? Is there any logic to this?

I didn't think i had blood in my stool either (with pancolitis) turned out it was just more mixed into the stool. I had a sample tested and that's what they told me. A lot of the time the blood from high up is too dark to discern as blood.

I personally think there is more blood supply and of course muscles in the rectum...and you might also have a hemorrhoid?

Many who have just ulcerative proctitis do find it's more difficult to get controlled. I believe suebear is one who was in that situation.

Could be because it is where all passes through.

You need more powerful rectal meds methinks.

Oh, did you recently taper down a pred dosage?

well that surprises me, that people with more of their colon affected don't have more blood. Mine is in the rectum and I can't imagine more than what I get when badly flaring. I do get quite a bit sometimes and before I was dx'd, I remember the toilet being bright red w/it. Scary stuff!! Sorry!

I think the reason why you see it more when it's in the rectum is because it is either streaking the bowel movement or dripping. When your colon bleeds it gets mixed in with the fecal matter and isn't as readily apparent to the eye as it becomes a part of the formed movement.

All those comments make sense. Thank you.

Yes I've tapered down from 40mg to 15mg - quite quickly actually as I don't like Pred!!
