Hi

Has anyone here ever got into remission using homeopathic medicines?

I am taking a load of them right now but nothing seems to be happening...

Thanks

I noticed you've crossed off the primadophilus reuteri...how long were you taking it for and why did you stop?

My successful regiment consists of the following;

bee propolis (don't take bee products if you're allergic to bees)
omegas 3-6-9
Prodiem stool bulker (similar to metamucil)
vitamins B12, A, C-Calcium Ascorbate (easier on the gut)
primadophilus reuteri

it can take time for things to kick in, it's different for each person, also the combination may vary from person to person as well....most importantly you have to give each thing a fair chance, a few days or weeks may not be enough it could take months, and also, add only one new thing at a time so you know what's working and what isn't...to know for sure if something is working, you'll notice more improvements with your symptoms, if you don't notice improvements after giving each thing a fair chance then don't bother continuing with it...

as far as probiotics go, it's important you find one that does work for you rather then not take any at all.

pb4...you might also consider adding smoking to your supplement regimen since you believe it's helping, right?

KSU...what are all the homeopathic meds you're trying now...and have none of your symptoms improved at all since being on the mainstream meds as well as the others?

I took primadophilus reuteri for around a month but I seemed to feel worse. I noticed an increase in bleeding!  But, on reflection I dont actually think it was due to that...

You are right, each new thing should be given a fair amount of time but thats one of my biggest weaknesses, I am too quick to rubbish things.. I might give it another try.

Also, its interesting you mention calcium ascorbate.  Every calcium supplement I have tried causes me terrible problems which is bad as the pred is ruining my bones. I will try the one you take..

Also, does stool bulkers really help?  I always thought they made you go more often? How much do you take? I have taken ispaghula husk in the past and it increased my BMs....

Quincy - I actually have no idea what all the homeopathic meds are.  My dad went to India and brought them all back. There are 4 different types of tablet and 3 liquid ones. And no, nothing has improved with my symptoms :-(

Wow...you just take anything without at least knowing what it is?  That's a huge risk...but that's just my opinion on that kind of stuff.

What are your symptoms at this time..exactly.

Yes, I wish there was labels on them, but unfortunately there are not. But I am desperate enough now to try anything.

Symptoms right now are multiple BMs during the night and early morning with blood and urgency. Been going on for over 2 years now...

Apparently calcium ascorbate is suppose to be easy on the gut, that's why I chose this one, I get if from puritans pride online.

And yes, stool bulkers really do help, with either C or D, my GI told me to take it and I'm so glad I listened...it decreased my daily BM's because instead of many trips to the can with small deposits, it bulks up my stools so I go less times and have larger deposits...always start with a small amount (I take one tab) and drink with plenty of water, increase only if necessary and only once your system has adjusted to the initial amount you started with...it may cause bloating and gas but this is normal for the adjustment period (it took 3 months for my system to adjust) it was honestly well worth it.  I use Prodeim stool bulker (not to be confused with prodiem laxative which is a small round brown pill), the stool bulker is similar to metamucil.  My GI said to take it daily for the rest of my life, it's been 4ish yrs now and I plan to stick with it.  I can even tolerate eating fibreous foods now without getting all gassy and bloated.

OK, I will have to try a stool bulker then.

But, have you ever used it when you are bleeding/flaring?

Thanks

Yes, I've always been in some form of a flare my entire 16 yrs of having crohns-colitis (crohns affecting my colon), my GI suggested it to me because he believes I also now have IBS and said it should be helpful for both the CD and the IBS, it definitely has been helpful...what stopped my bleeding completely, and pain (in lower back area not in the gut) was bee propolis, I still take it twice a day, 500mg and my GI says keep on with it as well...it's 100% non-toxic and has helped many of my CD symptoms, it lessened some of my mucus but once I started taking the fibre supplements then the mucus completely stopped.

I buy my bee propolis (500mg) from puritans pride online, great prices, avoid bee products if you're allergic to bees.

Get back on probiotics is also my suggestion...good luck and keep us posted.

KSU

You have tried most of the major meds for treating UC, have you met with a surgeon yet? The other thing that you may want to try is Humira but it might be a fight to get your insurance to pay for it. 2 years is a long time to be flaring.

natural supplements never worked for me, I tried VSL, accupunture, nicotine patches, etc.... It was just a waste of time and money for me, the only thing that worked for me was a hospital stay on Cyclosporine.

Good luck.

I believe that supplements have helped me with my UC.  I am not fully in remission but I am better.  I view them as components in my remission strategy.

I use:

VSL3, Fish Oil, Bromelian, Boswellia, Calcium with D, Cinnamon, Slippery Elm, Vitamin E, Biotin, Ultra Chromium Picolinate, GNC Super Greens and Fruits, Digestive Advantage, Flax seeds, Ginger Tea, Green Tea, Accupuncture, and mind/body combination therapy.

I probably missed one! hehehe

love to all

Wow, Thats unbelievable.  I dont know how you manage to take all that.  I struggle, and I dont take anything near the amount you do..

Do you stick to a rigid time schedule for taking them and leave a gap in between? Or do you take most of them at the same time?

Thanks
