Hi Everyone, was wondering if anyone has heard of Natren Probiotics by Natasha Trenev, her website is www.natren.com I read an article that states her probiotics are the best in the world. Also read an article by an Author who has Crohn's who wrote the books IBD Remission Diet, and Listening To Your Gut, her name is Jini Patel Thompson. She states that people with IBD should take probiotics in powder form cuz sometimes our digestive process cant break down the capsule form, has anyone ever heard this? Does anyone feel the powders are better? She also states that the trio probiotics L. acidophilus (DDS-1) or NAS super strain, B. Bifidum (Mayloth super strain) and L. Bulgaricus (LB-51 super strain) are the best ones to take for IBD people. Was wondering what everyones thoughts were on this, any input would be appreciated, Thanks Nikki

Hi Nikki,

I take the Natren Healthy Trinity. It's a three-in-one capsule that you take with a meal and only once a day. Personally? I LOVE it! It took a few days to adjust to it, as it is real potent. And it is expensive. However, it really is an excellent product. Definitely worth a try if you can afford it.

Hi Squattie,

was wondering where you purchased yours at? do you go thru natrens website? Ive been checking online to see if it's cheaper elsewhere and i found www.vitacost.com has it cheaper and so does www.outletnutrition.com When you say it took a few days to adjust to it, what do you mean? did it upset your stomach at all? Have you tried the powder at all? was wondering how that would taste. Thanks for replying to me, i appreciate it alot. Nikki

nikki1969 : The body typically needs some adjustment time with probiotics. You may feel some initial bloating. This will pass as your body adjusts to the new bacteria mix in your intestines. Be patient, the long term benefits are worth it. IMO probiotics are a necessity for anyone with bowel issues.

I was taking Natren Healthy Trinity for about 10 months and recently stopped.  I couldn't take them while on vacation because they have to be refrigerated and noticed that the bloating that I was having went away while I was on vacation.  I tried taking them at different times of the day and still had the incredible bloating so I chose to stop taking them for now.  If I experience g.i. problems, I would start taking them again though.

I bought mine at Whole Foods.

I recently bought the Bifido Factor non-dairy powder on Jini's recommendation. I found the taste/texture mildly unpleasant - kinda like drinking water with some gritty bread crumbs in it, LOL - but not too bad. I've had to take stuff that tastes alot worse. I only tried it for a few days before my c-scope, but it didn't seem to help me much. I guess I need to give it a longer trial and maybe experiment with the lactobacillus product next. That said, Natren is known to produce excellent products and Natasha is probably one of the most knowledgeable folks on probiotics.

Before trying the Natren, I'd been using Custom Probiotic's six strain powder blend with very good results. CP is recommended by alot of folks on the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. Harry, the owner and chemist, is also very knowledgeable and will be happy to give phone consultations. I attribute my years of remission, in large part, to his formula.

2 billion cfu per serving is much lower than others, medical studies show active UC disease requires 1800 to 3600 billion cfu per day (visit the VSL #3 site for links to medical studies).
