hi folks- I'm wondering if anyone on here has tried this drug yet? If so- how is it? If you haven't tried it, has your doctor mentioned it? Are you on Remicade right now? As you all porbably know, Remicade isn't doing it for me anymore. I think Humira is currently the only drug I haven't been on. Any info would be great. Thanks!

There was a thread on humira about three or four days ago i think. Try using the search for flipping back a bit. I remember it was pretty long...

yeah I know- but not one person in that thread has taken the drug. That's really what I'm curious about- if anyone on here has been on it yet.

Eva, the only thing that I can tell you about it is that I had no problem getting approved for Humira. It was going to be a lot cheaper for me because you don't have to pay the infusion site, which my portion is around $75. However, my GI wanted me to try Remicade first and it seems to be working for me. He did say if the Remicade stops working or if it gets to expensive he will switch me to Humira. Personally, I think the Humira sounds better because I don't care for the whole mouse element of Remicade but I'll continue to use it as long as it works. Sorry I can't be more help. I would love to hear from some people who are on Humira as well.

Hi Eva Lou -- my Goddaughter's good friend has had UC very very bad for a long time. She has a few small children and a husband who has a job that requires him to travel quite a bit. I don't know how she has been able to raise the children with how sick she has been. (Very similar to several on the board here as well.)

She was definitely headed for surgery as nothing was helping. Humira she was put on. The results for her have been very good. So good that the surgery aspect is now not a current issue any longer. Hopefully this will continiu for her for many years to come.

Other than that I don't have any more indepth info to share. My Godchild has asked a few times if my husband should possibly inquire to the doctor about that for himself. As bad as he was for those few months this past spring I don't think he was ever as bad as she was.

I know all this info is second hand but figured I would at least post this info since it doesn't seem like there are alot of forum members who are on this medicine.

It's good to hear any info! I am going to be talking with my GI doctor this afternoon, & hopefully we can get the ball rolling on the Humira- we already discussed using it, but wanted to wait until after my 4th remicade infusion to see how it "took". Which it didn't! I had the infusion 8/20, never really went symptom free, & within a week have become pretty bad- you know, can't leave the house without a diaper, up 4 times a night, lots of blood & mucus...good times! eyes   My concern was the insurance part- I have had no trouble with them paying for Remicade, so I'm hoping my dictor can get Humira approved. I'll post more tomorrow to let you guys know what he says, but I'm hoping it's a go. I don't like the mouse protein part of Remicade either...of course your body is going to make antibodies eventually! On another note, I did get the release form from my GI's office to send the surgeon my records, so it's one small step down that road. I still haven't actually called the surgeon & said "I want to make an appt." though. I'm starting to freak out a little- what if I get surgery & they have a "cure" or some fabulous new med a year later?!?!?!
