So, I've been on Prednisone since June, and I avoided the dreaded moonface- UNTIL NOW! My cheeks are officially chunky-style and the worst is that I'm starting work this week (as a teacher) and I feel gross! I was complaining to a fellow teacher that kids were going to tease me, because that's just how high school kids are- and she was like "No way, no one will notice"

THEN, at orientation yesterday my favorite student comes up and says, "darn, Ms. K-------, your cheeks got chubby over summer!"

THANKS!

in better news, I'm down to 20mg and the colon is feeling GREAT- everything else, not so much.....

So many of us have been there. I have photos of me with my moon face. When I see them now I am stunned! It's a vanity thing for sure (it was for me). However, I'm glad you a feeling well! Judy

Moon face is the worst! My only advice would be to drink lots of water and avoid salt at all costs. I always knew that if I consumed a lot of salt - like on tortilla chips - I would pay for it the next day. Just remember - this too shall pass. :-)

Ah, yes, I thought my moon face last summer was more pregnancy than prednisone, but no it is back with a vengeance and I can't blame the pregnancy anymore. Sigh, just when I was starting to see my cheekbones again, they are gone...

No one ever said much about my moon face, until I got in a fight with one of my friends at the time; I said something to her and her retort was, "Yeah? Well at least I didn't get FAT!" Hah. I wasn't even 'fat', I'm 5'8" and at the time was up to 130lbs! I'm pretty sure that's not fat, though most of it was probably in my face, haha. I am definitely overly concerned about my weight though, when I was on pred this last time, I spent the better part of my days checking myself in mirrors at all angles and lamenting over every pound that was gained. I actually started counting calories and sodium intake which is something I had never bothered to do before and it's tedious but it does help keep things in check. If you see how much you're eating instead of just blindly giving into all your cravings (which I certainly would have done otherwise) it really helps you restrain.

A great website to do that at is www.sparkpeople.com - I had posted it here before, but it's free and it's really convenient and easy to use, and you can add nutrients to track in addition to the "normal" stuff, like right now I'm also tracking my potassium intake.

Pred gave me a very ugly moon face and my face returned to its normal shape after I started with cinnamon tea
