I'm currently on my 3ed week of Pentasa at 3x500mg per day. Si far it has stopped my bleeding but loosened my BMs a bit. I visited my GI last friday and he said to up it to 3g/day since I was new to it and to have its full potent on my UC. But after a day of upping my dose, I doubled my BMs from 2 to 4-5/day. After not improving I decided to go back to 1.5g/day. But my D isn't getting any better. I'm on 7.5mg/day of Pred right now and I don't know how to control this D, if I should up my Pred again or continue tapering. Right now, I've stopped taking all meds except for Pentasa and Pred to see if I would improve. Anybody here can help/advice me? How can the D caused by anti-inflammatory meds go away?

Hi..it's possible and has probably happened to many of us.

How long were you on the 6 daily?  I think you should have stayed on them...or just added one pill per day to get up to the 6 daily (3000mg)

I would suggest you stay at the pred level now, don't up it and discuss the rectal meds..have we not suggested it to you? They're available in the philippines, right?  If so, your doc should have suggested them to you.

You could ask him about Salofalk retention enemas (since I see you used the pills in the past).

Only had them once since Salofalk was working for me at that time. Since I'm new on Pentasa, maybe I'll try rectal meds as well.

Definitely...try to be patient while you're tapering pred.

You could use a fibre supplement to help bulk up the stool so that you'll have less bms.

When you poo..are you having rectal pains?

No pains, just loose BMs. I've had 4 BMs in less than 6 hrs today before my scheduled Prednisone taking.

Thanks. Am calling my doc right now. Hopefully I'll get through to him.
