"will start VSL #3 when antibiotics are done"

Just curious as I saw this in your sig, why are you waiting to take VSL after you're done your antibiotics?  Probiotics are very beneficial to take daily as it is for IBDers but especially beneficial for those times while taking antibiotics.

starting them after the anti's is just what my GI doctor suggested. i guess she thinks probiotics and anti's don't mix but i am very curious to hear if you have a different opinion/experience. the more information the better. thanks for catching that and bringing it to my attention. :)

I'm surprised that your GI has that line of thinking...as long as you take your probiotics at least 2 hours after you're finished taking your antibiotics for the day, then there's no worries of the antibiotics killing off the probiotics...so in a sence they don't mix only because the antis kill everything, but you need good bacteria in your system...

It's almost crucial that you're on probiotics while taking antibiotics because they kill off all bacteria, good and bad and that leaves your systmem so much more vulnerable to other nasty things...if it were me, no way would I follow your GI's advice on this one.

Glad this question came up............I didn't know how you juggle the pro biotics myself if on an anti biotic.

He has had Roseacea several times and has it again...milder than the other 2 times. We purposely did not fill the tetracycline prescription as we don't want to upset the bacteria balance since he has some really good days mixed in with his not so great days. We did not want to add to screwing things up.

At least for now with the prednisone tapering and the upcoming Mayo Clinic appt - we will hold off and question what we should do if it is even an issue October 1st.

she didn't want me to be on anti's and probiotics at the same time. so i finished the anti's, started VSL #3 but now i have run out of that and it is too expensive for me to buy more so i am starting a nature's way probiotic.

Just my 2 cents....I have been on and off antibiotics a lot lately (had a leg thing get infected). I always took my probiotic in addition to the antibiotics. I just made sure to stagger when I took them (couple of hours).

I don't know about VSL #3 specifically, but I have ALWAYS been advised to eat lots of yogurt when on any kind of antibiotic b/c you need the extra live cultures in yogurt to restore the cultures in the stomahc killed by antibiotics. I have always lived by that and always tolerated antibiotics well, including cipro.
