I almost had it- until the medical exam. I was almost fit to work except when I had the rectal exam. The company doc found my hemorrhoids and ask them to be removed. I explained that I had UC and they were gonna come back if I had them removed due to my UC. They had me get a medical certificate from my GI and I got it saying I was fit to work. After a few days waiting for HR to call, I texted my HR of my status. I wasn't accepted because my medical exam was sub-standard. That the company can only waiver for dental problems. That their medical benefits can't cover my UC.

I'm sad because I really wanted to start my career in that job (telecommunications- specifically cellular phone company). Now, I'm afraid that I'm never gonna get a job due to this illness. Specially since companies here are strict with their medical benefits.

That's not really the company rejecting you, it was the Dr. The company doesn't know anything about your condition. I took a physical for a state job and the Dr. was aware of my UC and she told me she would not stand in my way of pursuing the job and the state can't do anything about it because that would be discrimination. She could have failed me if she wanted to. It also helped that her husband had the same condition. But anyhow, If the Dr. sees you fit, then that is the end of the story. So in your case, it was the Dr.(health services) that screwed you. For your dr. to see you fit and them still fail you isn't right. I would be pissed too. If my present employer tried to fire me for my condition, I would be owning my own island! yeah

Something doesn't sound right here.  Are you in the states?  Why was the medical exam necessary for the position?  What was the position?  If your UC hindered your ability to do the job that could be grounds, but otherwise?

Please elaborate.

If you are in the states here I would be making a few phone calls to Discrimination Commissions, Attorney General's office and dig a little deeper if they are out of bounds with that decision.

However the insurance end of things - pre-existing conditions not being covered - there may be some truth in that part of it.

@ UC Dude

I'm from the Philippines, and unfortunately we don't (AFAIK) have a discrimination law the same as the US for us sick people.

Yup, its the company's medical doc that was the problem and my mom said that the company was known for its strict medical exam compliance- a few years ago, a 2nd placer of a government licensure exam here also didn't get accepted in that company due to his high blood pressure problem.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you are able to work it out because that is extremely unfair and (I hope) illegal. Good luck and keep us posted.

WHAT??? Where was this job **** Germany? Or were you applying for that position for the re-release of American Gladiators? This just doesn't sound right.
