So these past few days I've been having this weird pain in my back, it's constant but not really a bad pain... just kind of uncomfortable and annoying. But it's in the upper area of my back right near the bottom of my ribs and more towards the right side. It hurts when I breathe in and also when I press on my stomach in the area right where the ribs split over to the right as well. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it just be the ulcers? I figured it was probably connected to the colitis somehow because of the corresponding stomach pain. I thought it was just gas but after a few days and passing gas I've decided that can't be it. Now I'm just not so sure!

Sorry if this is a stupid post! Hope everyone had a nice three day weekend :)

I'd definitely get it checked out. I've had something similar twice and both times it turned out to be Pluerisy which is an inflammation of the outer lining of the lungs. The area you are describing is exactly where the pain was with me. It's extremely painful when you breath and walk. Since UC is an auto-immune disease, you are more prone to getting Pluerisy which is associated with auto-immune. Anyway, if it continues for a few more days you should have it checked out. There isn't anything they can really do for you since you can't take anti-inflammatory drugs. Hope you feel better soon!

Did it start out as sort of a dull ache and then get worse? It's not excrutiating for me (yet) but it's definitely annoying. I do occaisionally get pain that is a SHARP excrutiating stabbing pain in my chest that really hurts when I inhale so I take little tiny shallow breaths until it goes away, sometimes it lasts a few minutes. But that hasn't happened in a week or two so I don't know if that could be related.

For me it came on pretty suddenly and got progressively worse. I'd get horrible stabbing pains and then I'd do the same thing, inhale with small breaths. It was very hard to take a deep breath. If it hasn't happened in awhile then that could've been it and it could've gone away or it could be something else. It's one of those strange things that comes on and lasts about a week maybe and then goes away and you hopefully never get it again. I wish I could be of more help!
