My daughter had braces put on about two years ago. Not long after she started to get circular rashes on back and sides of legs then on inner fold of arm. (looked kinda like ring worm) Diagnosed dermitis. Then her gums started to look enlarged. Thought she had an allergic reaction to braces so had removed for month no change. Diagnosed Nickel allergy. Went to ceramic with titanium wires. Still had swelling. Orthodonist thought maybe excess gum from teeth moving in.

Eight months later has been diagnosed with colitis.

Can colitis cause gums to swell? GI hasnt suggested this.

Gums look terrible. (Orthodonist is now concerned) I am going to have a peridontist trim gums but... I am alittle afraid that if it is swelling if it where to go down and I have had gums trimmed.. yicks!

I don't think so, could be there is something eles triggering this gum swelling problem...how old is your daughter? Does she get her periods yet? Woman can get gum swelling around their menstral cycle and for some it's more noticable then for others.
