Hello all!  I've been away while dealing with some stress and moving.  Now that we're in the new place and partially settled, I hope to be on more regularly!

I see we have LOTS of newbies!  Welcome to you all :)

UC wife,

I'm wondering why you torchure yourself with oral iron 3X a day? Plus aspirin would be the last thing I'd be taking. Surely if you're clot prone they have better drugs for that than aspirin. Also when did you start enalapril? Did you take it before you had UC? Just wondering.

Hi Horus - my husband's Dr at the VA for his type 2 diabetes has him back on the iron due to the low blood - he needed 3 units of blood in May while in the hospital as his count was soooo low. He is now also getting B12 shots once a month. (His GI and Primary care are very intuned to what his meds are as well....I would hope even though he has a total of 4 different doctors and soon to be a 5th doctor that if something needs to be eliminated or changed we'll be told) We have questioned the baby aspirin about stopping it and advised to continue taking it. Because it is only the 81 mg...."not to worry"..... let's hope anyway!!!

The enalapril he has been taking for over 5 years now...when he was diagnosed with the type 2 diabetes 5 years ago in addition to the metformin he was automatically put on the enalapril and zocor and baby aspirin. (borderline high blood pressure and above normal levels for cholesterol and triglicerides) The metformin was stopped and glipizide in its place as of last Nov. as I read a medical journal paper that metformin in some cases has been thought to cause gastro problems. We asked his specialist/endocrinologist about it and he thought after 5 years it might be good to change to glipizide. Sooooooooooooo did maybe the metformin have any kind of correlation to the UC that he hadn't had for 4+ years while on that medication? Who knows.

We are seeing the Mayo Clinic October 1st and going over a ton of things with them - medications certainly first and foremost among other things.

It will be interesting to see what they think about all the stuff he is on.

The iron doesn't seem to be giving him problems such as constipation if that is why you were asking. Maybe the Mayo clinic will have better suggestions for some of what he is taking currently. -- the iron included.
