It seems like there are a lot of people talking about flare ups that have just started within the last few weeks. I was in remission until 3 weeks ago. I wonder if there is any substance to the thought that UC can be seasonal? Just curious about how everyone is handling this. After week 2 of my flare up, I called my doc and I'll be seeing him on Tuesday. Hopefully some more drugs will make things better!

Diagnosed with UC January 2007

I am so tired of my bum exploding and of the poo, mucous, blood mixture that I see on the tp. TMI, I know! It looks like a Jackson Pollack painting! Maybe I could sell it and make millions....

Both times I've flared its been in late spring. Never thought about it like that before though. Could be interesting to look into...

Both times I have had bad flares they started in late winter (end Feb).
Dx:  2006
Meds:  None so far. Garlic works to ease flares. My GI laughed when I told him and said it was just coincidence.
Diet:  Regular fresh garlic, Biobest yogurt daily, Omega 3 supplements, very limited junk food, carbs and processed food, low fat diet.  Lots of fresh fruit and veggies (limited potatoes).
Added: tumeric and probiotics.

I've been flaring since like March 2006 and am finally down to 5mg prednisone. I stopped bleeding about 4 months ago so I finally started to taper from 20mg prednisone and of course my BM's are much looser with a little mucus on them at first and now i'm seeing tiny specs of blood. My BM's are dissapointing, but being at 5mg prednisone after being on it forever feels good. I thought I would never go back into remission, but it's happening.
Severe Colitis (pancolitis) since January 9, 2005
currently:  I can honestly say Under Control now after 1 yr flare.
RX/day:  20mg prednisone; 2400mg Asacol; 150 Azathioprine
OTC: Acidophilus Pearls; seldom use vitamins & other natural treatments
FYI: Began SCD diet 5/1/07 and caprylic acid-UC improved dramatically.

I'm flaring, too, but why? I just got over a sinus infection and it is that time of the month. If those of us posting see a "link," to seasonal reasons and monthly cycles, what does the medical profession really say? I don't know that I've come across anything, yet. Does anyone have any links? Why don't our GI's know this, admit this and treat us accordingly? Sorry--I am tired of the "unknowns" we have with UC. I just want it to get better!
Pancolitis diagnosed 5/07 during a flare
that started 3/07 through 6/30/07:  2 Lialda 1.2 mg/each per day
flare 7/24/07 through 8/1/07 and then, 4 Lialda 1.2 mg/each per day since 8/1/07 and doing good until
most recent flare: 9/9/07
