(I just tried it this morning and it works well):

- Place a 16" sheet of aluminum foil over the toilet seat

- Make sure you allow the foil to hang down below the seat about 4-5'' into the toilet bowl to allow for a collection area in the foil. Tape the foil down to the seat in four areas.

- Have a double lined plastic grocery sack open and waiting near the toilet for waste.

- Fold the foil up in the back to prevent anything from slipping down the back of the foil into the toilet.

- Do your thing while sitting over foil.

- With a disposable rubber glove on, use a disposable plastic spoon to collect specimen and place it in container.

- When done, throw glove and spoon into foil still hanging into toilet bowl.

- Detach foil from toilet seat and wad it up and throw it all into the open plastic bag.

- Double tie the double-lined bag and take it outside to your garbage can.

Great idea! I could have used that a couple of years ago! I'll try to remember this tip if ever I need to do that again in the future.

What worked for my husband when he needed to take 3 different specimens at 3 different times for two separate vials for the parasite and organism testing I gave him three containers (the 16 oz type margarine/butter tubs with lids). These containers were washed out with real hot soapy water so there was no residue in them. These vials had a spoon built into the cap when you unscrewed it to collect the specimen.

He pooped in them - took the specimens and discarded what he could back into the toilet and then put some water in the container to loosen up and throw in the toilet. Put the lid on the container and put in a plastic bag, tie it up and toss it in the trash in the garage. We did this the day before trash day.

The above hint is excellent - this is just how we did it as we weren't sure how the heck to collect it either.

about 5 years ago a nurse suggested that I use plastic wrap placed across the toilet bowel with a pouch formed in the middle to collect the sample. If you use the good stuff that clings to everything you won’t need tape to hold it. She said after collecting the sample just flush the plastic wrap down the toilet. She assured me that it would not clog the toilet. I Have been doing it this way a couple of times a year ever since without a problem. Unless the container has its own scoop I use a clean popsicle stick to collect the sample. Afterwards I clean the stick by holding it in the running water in the toilet after I flush it, and then throw it into the regular trash.

wow - I'd be so afraid of the plastic wrap somehow clogging up the works somewhere. That is certainly the easiest way to go if it truly does not present a potential problem.
