I have so many issues at the moment i don't know where to start. I guess i will have to list them one by one.

I live in England and i was prescribed with Sulfasalazine back in Feb this year when i was diagnosed with UC. I am a 46 year old female.

Extreme Tiredness - I wake up feeling as if i have not slept at all.  I could fall asleep on my way to work.   I have always been able to come home from a full days work and then do my housework and cook dinner, but now i could just flop every day into a chair and fall doze.  My partner, who is very supportive has noticed that i often fall asleep for power naps every night.  When i get into bed i cant get to sleep because of aching joints.

Joint Pain. - The joint pains started before i was diagnosed but seemed to occur now and again.  Now, i feel them all the time.  I take calcium tablets and the sulfasalazine is supposed to help but now they are so much worse.  My fingers, shoulders, toes, knees and lower back just ache all the time and i can continually click all the joints.  I have been taking Cod liver oil tablets to try and help this but it never seems to go.  My doc says is it part and parcel of the illness.  Sometimes when i stand up, the joints in my feet seize up and i walk like an old woman for a little while.  The pains in the fingers and toes are getting worse and they ache most of the time.

Weight Increase.  I have put on over 20lb since taking the Sulfasalazine.  My appetite is fine but i never over eat.

There are many more issues i have but i dont want to keep listing because they will go on forever.

Does anybody have any suggestions.

Hi, don't think I can suggest anything, but just wanted to say that i totally relate to what you're saying!

I'm in Scotland and have been on a combination of drugs since May, Asacol, Prednisolone, Predfoam enemas, Predsol enemas...nothing worked. I gained over a stone, which I blamed the oral Pred for, and now I can't seem to shift it. I had a scope last week and they've discovered the inflammation is rectal and now I've got Asacol Supps. Which are already making a difference in a couple of days I'm pleased to say. I'm just a bit peed off that I had to go through the delights of prednisolone and now they turn round and say that oral meds won't work because its so low down! (I've been told to stop the oral Asacol) I wonder if I'll see a change without any oral drugs?
My back and hip joints ache, I'm 39 and feel like 89! I've had back probs before but this has just brought it all back. I get cramps in my feet, my finger joints are swollen. I seem to get one day when I feel I have a normal amount of energy and then 2 days when I've got no motivation whatsoever. I'm sleeping for about 10hrs a night which was never a thing I would never do. My GP just puts it down to being part of the inflammatory process, which I can understand, but it's still a complete pain. I'd stopped taking Ibuprofen when this flare started but I've gone back on it as I can't stand the joint pain

So that's my moan! Wish i could suggest something...heat helps my back and cold water on the hands eases the joints first thing in the morning
