When I was tapering off prednisone, my doc raised my Asacol to 12 a day.  I successfully tapered off the prednisone and was in remission for 2 years.  My doc told me that whatever level of Asacol it took to get to remission would be the dose I'd have to stay on.  Does that sound right?  I see some people DO taper the Asacol.  It's the only med I'm taking at the moment.

Just curious to what others' experiences and conversations with their doctors sound like....

Thanks.

My GI said I can taper my Asacol once I get into remission. I'm on 12 a day now, still in a flare.

anytime I lower my dosage of asacol or rowasa my sx's increase, so I just keep them as they are--I can play around w/the rowasa more, such as, skip a night or two if no signs of bleeding, but if I go too long, blood always returns. I think the lowest I'd even go w/asacol is 6 a day. Rowasa more likely to skip just b/c it's an enema and have been shootin it up my bum for almost 10 years now and just get tired of it.

I'm on Colazal but I'll still chime in. I was on 9/day while flaring. I just tapered ot 6 a day. I only dropped 1 per month. I quit cold turkey once and it threw me almost immediately into a flare.

I just saw my doctor last week Tuesday and he upped my asacol to 12 but told me I could go back to 6 once my flare is under control. However, he didn't mention the process to which to do this. So I'm going to call his office tomorrow to find out if it's one per week or one per month or what. If I find out an answer, I'll post and let you know.
