I am going less times per day but have more blood in my stools (than when on the asacol and it is redder and not as mixed in w/the stools) the amount of blood has been steady for about a week and I can't tell if I am getting any better or not.  I know since stopping the Asacol and switching to lialda on 8/24 my flare increased when I thought I was almost out of it.  Took me about 8 weeks of Asacol to get me almost back to normal.  Stopped lialda on 9/6 and started prednisone on 9/7.

How do I know if I am steriod reistant?  I want to throw myself a pity party!!!!

Why did you stop Lialda? Did you go cold turkey?

Pity party all you want! That's why we are here:)

yes, I stopped the Lialda cold turkey and I think that may have something to do with it too......b/c of my kidney disease I had to stop, I believe the 5ASA drugs caused it.

do people normally stay on their maint meds & take prednisone on top of it?

That's right...now I remember. I quit Colazal cold turkey once and I went into a nasty flare. I have always taken maintence meds while on pred.

If you are feeling better and you frequency is down, I wouldn't worry. I was on prednisone for over 2 years and never stopped bleeding. However, if you are not feeling better and your frequency is unchanged, you need to contact your GI.

I stopped asacol when I went into a flare and had little luck with prednisone alone. As soon as I started taking asacol again my condition improved.
