Hi there - I'm new here and wonder if anyone can reassure me.  Was diagnosed with proctitis 3 years ago and just had my second colonoscopy.  Waiting for dr. to call with biopsy results and I'm scrared out of my mind.  Anyone out there with some reassuring words.  Worried about pre-cancer cells, although the dr. didn't indicate anything like that when I woke up from procedure.

Thanks!

Hi there! Welcome to HealingWell!

Think happy thoughts! Reassurance is on the way :)

It's highly unlikely that cancer would occur within the three years. I'm sure your doc would have mentioned anything if he saw something serious. If your cancer fears were realized, you'd be in a good spot as it would have been caught early on. I'm sure you don't need to worry about that though :)

What makes you think cancer? Have things been REALLY bad lately? Lots of blood? Or, has the inflammation been under control?

Anyway, there is no sense worrying about it until you know. The only thing that worry will do to you is make you flare! We don't want that.

So, take a deep breath and do something you enjoy! You deserve a reward after going through a c-scope prep!!!

What a sweet response. Thank you.

I heard from the doctor and the diagnosis is "only" proctitis.  Guess I was reading the internet too much and was worried about the cells being pre-cancerous.  Need to stay on canasa for a couple of weeks and then use it as maintenance every other day.

I asked him about probiotics - he said they can't hurt, but he believes that if they help at all, it's only a tiny bit (of course, he didn't say tiny bit!)  Have used culturelle in the past and wondered if you think it's doing anything for you.  I'm a big believer in "complementary" medicine so am open to trying again, but can't imagine how I would know if it helps.  Kind of costly too!

Thanks again for the lovely welcome!

I pray that you get good results :-)    I just got a letter from my  doctor and it didn't say much. All it says is that I have colitis and to call to schedule an appt. for options, now what kinda diagnois is that. When after I took the colonoscopy she said that my entire colon is inflammed.  I am now confused ??????

I would be furious to receive a letter instead of a phone call.  Fortunately the gastro doc that I see calls everyone a week after the procedure with the lab results...even it they are normal.

Why not call the office and tell them that you are worried and you would like the doc to call you so that you can talk before your appt.

Colitis is manageable, but when first diagnosed it's so frightening that you need some questions answered by the experts.

Yes I was frustrated and I threw the letter away. I am so aggervated(and it's not good to stress out like this) that I am not even going to call them back. I think I am going to tell my family doctor and maybe he can send me to another Gastro.
