i am throwing up and have massive D...in other words i am flaring worse than ever. i was supposed to go to my best friend's birthday party tonight but instead i am lying on the bathroom floor. i am so angry at my body!!! sorry, just needed to get that out...

I'm so sorry you're having a bad flare and are so sick right now.  sad Do you have a roommate there with you? You're losing so much fluid and electrolytes, and I don't want you to pass out and be by yourself. If you're home alone, please call a friend and ask them to check on you, because things can go downhill quickly when your vomiting and having diarrhea at the same time. Hang in there and drink plenty of water, if you can keep it down. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Katie - so sorry you are SO sick and missing the bday party! This sounds REALLY bad. Perhaps, if you're not yet stable, it's time for the ER?

oh lord, i just threw up again. but i figure if i am well enough to sit here and type this message, i probably don't need to go to the e.r. besides, i just can't handle the idea of another hospital visit...

Katie..I agree for you to not wait too long before considering your situation as possibly more serious than just nothing.

Are you bleeding as well? It could be related to the malrotated colon rather than UC?

I think it would be best to get yourself checked out if it continues longer than a day.

What do your parents say about it? They must be worried.

Keep us posted as to how you're doing. I can certainly understand the feeling of anger toward your body. Big time!

thanks for the support, friends! i am feeling a bit better today, i called my dad last night and he came and spent the night with me. i still have D but the vomiting has stopped and i can tolerate water and broth. mostly, i jus feel weak and angry. also, he wanted me to go to the e.r. but my rule of thumb is that if i can keep water down, i don't need a hospital. i really hate hospitals (and NG tubes!) i'm no sure if the flare is from my coliis, the malrotaed colon or the bacteria in my small intestine. whatever it is, thanks for letting me vent, your support means so much. hopefully the D will go away soon, i have to work tonight so i have about 5 hours to get myself in to normal shape!

still have D and am very nauseous, i haven't thrown up again but i am wondering, as a general rule, what time you decide to go to e.r. just curious to see if this happens in the future...

Glad to hear you're feeling a wee bit better!

I too, hate hospitals! I've probably held off going to the ER when I should have, at least a few times. It's odd - once I'm able to talk to someone - or just have someone else there, I feel a bit better. Maybe having your dad there did that for you?

If things continue to come out both ends and you find yourself getting dehydrated, it's probably time for the ER. Usually, if it's a GI bug, it'll be over in about 24 hours. I would say if things continue longer than that (48 to 72 hours) it's time for the ER. Best bet is to call your doc, who knows your history, and ask if you're not sure. Or if you are in lots of pain, can't move from the bathroom floor and are asking yourself, should I go to the ER, then you probably should - if only for fluids!

If you can get out of work tonight, and give your body some more time to rest, I would! Just tell them you have the stomach flu!

I was acting just like you in February. Throwing up, direaha, nausated the works. I put it off going to the ER also. I got so bad, that I finally did go to the ER and they admitted me. I was in the hospital for 4 days with severe dyhydration and very bad flare.
Please don't let this happen to you. Please if this continues, please go to the ER

sorry to bring this up again but now it has been 24 hours. i have thrown up a few more times, had multiple bowel movements (not d) and i am in lots of pain, ber bloated and distended and nauseous. my dad and i are debating about if i should go to the e.r. he is scared so he wants me to go, but i don't see how they could possibly help me. suggestions would be great. also i don't want to have him pay for an e.r. trip and have it turn out to be nothing...
