I was just wondering if I was the only one that has a hemorrhoid due to this disease. I have had it for a long time but I think it's because of the constipation I had when I first started flaring up..before I was diagnosed. It doesn't seem to go away and I think it is probably because I use the bathroom so much due to UC.

I was wondering if hemmorhoids were common among UC patients.

I'd say the two definitely go hand in hand!  While annoying, I always figure they are the least of my concerns most of the time.

I had one about 4 years ago, not fun. I haven't had one since. I was worried about that. I think for me it was b/c I was straining to try to get everything out so I wouldn't have to keep on going (going for that one last little kernel, sorry that is gross but it's my only analagy).

I think I took epsom salt baths and used wipes and it went away, oh yeah and suppositories.

HTH!

Hi all, I am new here.I have divertic along with the U.C.. I just found out about the U.C..I do have hmmorhoids(sp) also which are bleeding. My G.I. has me on Asacol and also Canasa suppositories one at night. My Dr.wants me to have surgery for the divertic, after the scope he hasn.t mentioned much about it.I think he is trying to bring U.C. under control first.I dont know if U.C. is just left sided as yet.Now get this (LOL) I am an active 75 yrs.old, still working P.T. and afraid of the serious surgery. My heart goes out to all of the young people here with this problem..Take care,Redsmom.

I was just going to start a thread on this today. I think I may have a hemorrhoid, but I'm not sure because I've never had one before. My anus has been really sore/painful and itchy the past 4 days. I don't see or feel a hemorrhoid though. It feels like it may be getting better though b/c it doesn't hurt as much as it did the past few days. Do they go away on their own? Is it okay to use hemorrhoid suppositories with UC? I'm also taking antibiotics right now which I think are causing some mild diarrhea.

Never in my life had I had hemmroids until I got UC. The constant going to the bathroom and the pushing out of my anus, that I didn't do voluntarily gave me the hemmroids. I went to a rectal surgeon he said only surgery will get rid of them, they are interal but fill up with blood and come out so they are called exteral. I'm doing infered laser now and it's not helping with my bad hemi. they say 4-6 visits and i'm on my 5th and the doctor say "maybe you should see a surgeon" I was about to kill him. Plus this s over $3,000 if you don't have insurance or $20 a visit if you do. I'm so frustrated, they promise you the hemis will be fixed, but it didn't. This doctor too on one occasion did something funny with the thing he interts and pooked at my butthole a few times and said I trying to see if your muscles work, anyways it was weird all together. You know when you get that funny feeling like somethings not right? I did with this guy and he didn't do it the first two times. Weird. He was a gynocoligist (I can't spell worth poop) but now he's working for this hemmroid company, that doesn't add up either.

That sounds really screwed up, therearemiracles. Especially if you got a bad gut feeling about him. I've never been in that situation, but that just doesn't seem right. I would not go to that guy anymore.

therearemiracles,

I'd only recommend hemorrhoid surgery if it's absolutely necessary. I had it done and I still have hemi's, but now I have to be very careful how I wipe otherwise small amounts of you-know-what will remain in there...what a pain! What I do recommend is try using hemorrhoid creams like Ziro by ZenMed and Neo Healar, they are both great for hemorrhoids.

Ok Thank you. Whats happening the doctor said is the interal is coming out b/c it fills up with blood, just like a vericous vein. Will this med still help with it?

Unfortunately, no...both creams should be applied to external hemi's only...in the past I thought you could use it on internal hemi's but I was wrong.

Hi all, I had a sigmoid done in about '78. I had inward hemms at that time but they were no problem.I had what I have now in 2005,bleeding gross stools etc.(sorry) but it went away.I had a 2nd colonoscopy in Oct.. The Dr. said nothing about U.C.,just the divertic acting up.I had no problems again until late june of this year.Colonoscopy in Aug..Showed divertic, bleeding hemms~biopsy showed U.C..Ive only been aware of the U.C for a month.I'm getting "long in the tooth"for surgery but Dr. doesnt think so.I have no idea what hs plans are for I have to go to surgeon for the surgery.I dont know what he plans to take out but will find out Oct.30th..Hang in there!

Asacol400~2 tabs. 4 times a day
Canasa 1000mg. suppository at bedtime.
