Hey guys! Saw my GI today. I have been taking Prilosec OTC for acid reflux and it wasn't helping that much. He put me on Nexium. If I don't see improvements in 2 months he's going to do a scope (joy). Just wanted to see if it had helped you. Thanks!

Hello, I am a story like you...I was taking Prilosec OTC for a few months. Over time, my pain and discomfort gradually got worse. He put me on Nexium and after the first day on it, I've been fine ever since!! I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.

You should have good results with the Nexium. I've been on it for about 2 maybe three years now. No problems. The only thing about these acid blockers is that you have to give them a chance to work. I recall Nexium took a good two months on me (I guess it's like all the other pills we pop everyday - very seldom is an immediate effect seen). That being said my niece is a GI doc and she mentioned to me over Easter when I told her that I was still on Nexium that in all probability I always will be. When I asked why, she said that once you have been on the acid blockers for an extended length of time that all acid hell will break open when you stop them. So, who knows ...

Good luck with the Nexium. I know several people on this with mixed results. I have been having breakthru burn at night on occasion but I don't know if it warrants enough to make a call to the GI. He did mention that if the Prilosec doesn't work or stops working he was going to prescribe Protonix. I couldn't go on that from the start because of my wacky insurance rules. Let us know if it helps you ok?

That was my prob w/ Prilosec....worked for a good chunk of the day and then wore off by the middle of the afternoon. I have tried them all. I'm hoping this one will help...I"m miserable!

I switched a few months ago from Prilosec OTC to Nexium. It worked really well, and all that burning pain in my stomach is gone. Hope it works well for you!
