Hi Folks:

I just want share my experiences with UC here. I have been suffering from bloody and mucus stool, urgency to use bathroom for one and half year. I had colonoscopy done twice. First time, they call it hemorrhoids. Two months earlier, I was diagnosed with UC, but proctitis only.

I took some rapid actions as my life was very miserable.  I tried 5ASA, it only can maitain my proctitis(UC) from acting up. It couldn't cure the problem. Plus, side-effects can be scary according to online messages. So I quit the 5ASA after 2 weeks trial.

I tried a Chinese Medicine called Run Chang Wan for 2 weeks, which helped some. I may help me more if continue it. but I stopped it as I wasn't sure how long a person can be on this Run Chang Wan.

I tried Bee Propolis  for 10 days. I worked like miracle. I am almost healed!  But  bee proctitis caused pain and itch on my kidney and bladder area. I had to stop bee proctitis yesterday.

To maintain my healthy status now, I am trying Aloe Vera now. I will keep you guys updated here.  I also quit my favorite spicy food and gluten food.  And I drink a lot of water.

What work for you? Each person got UC for different reasons. You have to try different experiments to see which remedy work for you. It must to have a daily diary, records which one works, which food upsets your guts.

I visited different GI doctors already. There is no cure for this as my doctors told me. It seems like Chinese Medicine has a cure for this per my online research. Chinese Medicine can't cure many things. But it has a good wholistic approach to fix our body. This is what Western Medicine needs to improve on.  But you have to find a good Chinese doc in your area.  This is my first time visit here. Thank you all for your support.

Glad to hear your keeping your UC under control. For so many of us it is very difficult to do. There have been others on this site that say Aloe Vera helps and they get very specific on brand name and type. I tried it when I was flaring really bad so maybe I should give it another chance since my UC is sort of under control now.
What other treatment or medication are you taking? Where are you from?

I am not taking any medications as they always have unwanted side effects. I work at healthcare feild. Only meds I WILL try are Chinese herbal medicines as there is no cure from Western Medicine for this ulcerative Colitis. I am doing my research to find a good Chinese Doctor now. I live in the Southwest U.S. Peter

Hi guys: Do you think probiotics helps? I got my colitis shortly after I got antibiotics treatments for my sinus problem. If it does, What kind to buy? There are too many probiotics on the market. Thanks.

Dookie posted that Bio-Pro from Enzymedica worked for him. I just started it last night, one capsule at night before bed.

I'm taking one chinese herb collosania root something like that for my hemmroids, it's suppose to help vascular tone in my butt the doctor said. I'm seeing a natural path as well as GI. Trust me, I would love to just do my standard process supplements, but right now the meds seem to help with the symptoms. I agree the side effects, I don't know why, they are bothersome for me. Some people can take meds without any problems meds seems to always bother me.

Thanks for all your suggestions. For me, Probiotics may work a s antibiotics I took for my sinus prolems might killed all my flora( good bacterias) in the intestine. I know Chinese Medicine can fix colitis. The problem is how to find the right Chinese doctor.
Keep Up! Together, we are determined to conquer the colitis. Peter

Hi Peter,

I have tried chinese medicines in the past but had no luck.

I was on a three month course which cost £1000, included acupunture, herbal teas and massages.

My GI doctor says long term use of chinese medicine can cause liver problems...

Good luck for your treatment though.

You only need short term Chinese herbal medicine to treat Colitis per my research. You have to check each herb out before you take them. Western Medicine can casue renal failure sometimes for colitis per my reseach. You have to do your own screening. Thanks. Peter

I've had UC/IBS for over ten years and tried Chinese medicine, oh, about eight years ago, for approx. eight months. Probably spent hundreds, maybe a thousand+ on appointments and herbs and unfortunately, it did not "cure" or help me. If fact, every time I reported that the treatment wasn't working, I was given yet another herb to take or thing I needed to do--I started to get tired and, to tell you the truth, suspicious. The other thing that began to worry me was who was manufacturing/regulating the herbs I was taking?--and all the other things: safety, drug interactions, gender differences, etc. Being diagnosed with a chronic illness, I so wanted to believe there was an answer, a cure--still do. I also did acupuncture, acupressure, message therapy, etc. and although it felt good sometimes, sorry to say, didn't help. The only thing that keeps my sx's in check is Western chemicals and I'm grateful for them, at least it's something. Oh yeah, I also take probiotics, a good multi-vit, fish oil, flaxseed. Good luck to you on your journey.

Chinese Herbal medicine in U.S is not FDA approved, didn't go through a double-blind study, not systematically veried. I agree with you. Some Chinese herbal medicines are safe to use. You have to find it out yourself. China may have some well-known brand meds can cure or improve the colitis. I spent years in China before. I will call my Chinese friends to find out. Peter

NIcepeter: I am currently trying a chinese herbalist in Encinitas, CA.  I can give you his contact information if you are in near this area.  He was referred to me by a coworker who had a pretty bad bug or something that didn't improve, even when he went to his doctor they said they couldn't do a whole lot, but got better in a week with this herbalist.  I figured I'd give it a shot, because right now I am feeling desperate.  Like anything, it is supposed to take time, but he claimed that I should show some rapid improvement, then it takes months or years to fully recover.  Apparently people have done so well that there is no signs of scarring, which had made some of his GI buddies think these persons never had UC.

So I have only been on this for almost 2 weeks and it is too hard to say if I have seen any improvement, though I noticed my lower back pain left rapidly and for a time I had less blood, but it seems I am bleeding again (could be what I eat).  It is not just herbs, but also a diet to get use to as well, which was tough because I've tried a couple different types of diets and it is tough to think of new things when you feel wasted all the time.

As far as the usefulness and documentation of probiotics, see my and others' posts in "Probiotic tips; the numbers" originated by Burli.

Hope this helps.

It's important to remember what works for some doesn't necessarily work for all, the key is to keep searching until you find what works for you.

IBD is a very individualistic disease.

The main medications used in China to treat UC are aminosalicylates and steriods.

I've tried probiotics, fish oil, vitamins, different diets, I've been on colozal(which makes me fell horrible) and generally fell depressed about this disease. I am open for any advice anyone can give. This disease is controlling my life and I'm miserable

Before i got "cured" (meaning had this awful colon taken out!) i went to what i called a witch doctor, not really sure what her name would really be, she did stuff with your muscles and candles and incesnse and that kind of things. ANywya, she gave me this stuff called total leaky gut, and it actually helped alot. I couldn't afford to keep taking it though, it was really really high! and i couldn't find it anymore after a while either.
i would be wary of things from China, espceially with all the recent news.
