So I have had UC for 7 years. I just had my 6th remicade treatment and my stomach is actually doing pretty well (other than the morning urgency). My biggest problem though is I am just so tired and in pain all the time! My joints hurt, my muscles hurt, i sleep when i get home from work at 3:30 till about 7 everynight. My doctor has had me get blood work twice to see if anything looked wrong and both times he said the blood work was fine. So am I just supposed to be miserable and take tylenol for the rest of my life??? anyone experienced anything like this?? I feel like my doctors are missing something and i feel bad calling all of the time, but i feel horrible. Its been worse in the past month or so. I even get low grade fevers regularly.

I feel so overwhelmed and I just dont know what to do if my doctors are treating it like it is no big deal. Help me!

Kristyn,

I wish I could help you other than to tell you a lot of us go through episodes like yours and some seem to stay that way.  The mornings are hard for me with stiffness, soreness, headaches and then again in the evening.  I just took two Excedrin about an hour ago just for some relief from all of those before I go to bed.  It's good you had blood work done to at least eliminate some possiblities.  I hope it included hemaglobin and iron levels.  I went through a bad time last year before being diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia.  The two doctors were no help until I almost couldn't function. I can relate to the indifference of the doctors.  It seems to be a common theme in this forum.  I have learned to be quite vocal with them now that they know they blew it when it came to the last anemic episode.  My family doctor was good to provide scrips for every complaint but he nor my GI would put 2 and 2 together for a diagnosis.  Do not feel bad about calling the doctors.  It is their profession to cure or to alleviate suffering. It seems they just need to be reminded of that sometimes.  I do hope you feel better soon.

I've had UC/IBS for over ten years and about 3-4 years ago the chronic pain was causing me too much fatigue and I was given pain medication--has made a world of difference to the quality of my life. This is a touchy subject and a lot of doctors are hesitent to prescribe pain medication. It has been my observation that the pain spectrum of UC is wide, some can tolerate their sx's with OTC pain relievers and some of us need RX medication. Two BIG challenges for you are finding a understanding doctor and your age, most doctors do not want to prescribe pain meds to younger patients. Please visit the chronic pain forum, it has a lot of good info and support.
